Re: Ive been enjoying Eric Hansen games

Yesterdays game Eric Hansen - Nordenbaek started quietly. I didnt expect much with White's E and F pawns exchanged early but just when nothing seemed to be happening Eric got creative with his queens knight - it went from c3 to d1 and then spiralled across the board - nine knight moves to b7! winning the endgame! Worth a look!

Eric Hansen - Colon, Rd4 Sants I really enjoyed this one with my coffee but in a puzzling, food for thought kind of way. Surprisingly Eric plays some of my openings and this is one of them. Gives me great insights on how I can improve my play. Rossolimo Sicilian (3.Bb5) is the opening. Eric gets a nice flavor of position with classic center and 2B's vs Bg7. Beautiful Capa like positional play. At one point the computer gets into it suggesting Qc2 and Bc4 with a nice geometrical lineup on the C-file. The game continues and heads to what looks like a winning endgame for Eric. - but its complicated and tricky - lots of small tactics - great endgame for study - it was hard to solve the challenges and the game ended up a laborious draw. I'm almost convinced to change my style to more positional play.

Rd 6 Sants GM Eric Hansen - IM Lorenzo Another 3.Bb5 Sicilian where Black plays Nd4. With stellar positional play Eric gets the 2B's and then finds the lovely forcing Bc7 winning a pawn and dominating the black squares. At the end White has 2B's and active rook vs B+N+R but they are just spectators. Eric made it look easy.

Re: Ive been enjoying Eric Hansen games

Rd7 Sants GM Cruz - GM Eric A fascinating battle in the Grunfeld. White goes after Eric aggressively but Eric more than holds his own and seems to have an advantage in structure and piece play. However Eric captures a pawn on a4 (and the computer supports him on this) but was it positionally premature?. More tactics erupt and the computer thinks he missed Bd1 with a pawn up in a resulting rook and pawn ending. Is that enough to win? I at my level dont know. Fascinating game with lots of tactics and a striving for positional advantage.

http://tiger.bagofcats.net/chess/bar...ted-last-part/ This is Tiger's analysis of his game with Eric Hansen (White) at Sants. Very illuminating and full of fascinating variations. I enjoyed it with my morning coffee. I always look for Tiger's analysis.

I especially enjoyed Eric Hansen-Nijs last round Oslo this morning with my coffee - lovely game. Also rd 8 vs Turov (white) was very instructive for me. Those grim defensive tasks often make the difference in a key half point. I like to see grandmasters on the learning curve.

The best yet. The round 4 game from the Casino Masters Eric Hansen - Sam Shankland is the best game of Eric's in a while and totally made my morning (although I spilled my coffee I got so excited) Reader beware the finish is orgasmic!!!!!

http://kevinspraggettonchess.wordpress.com/ Another bloody battle Rd 6 at the Casino Masters. At the end Eric gets everything - queen and king and all the pieces if Black persists. Kevin gives thorough analysis. Great chess and coffee. What else could one ask for in the morning? Keep it up Eric!!

                          Havent seen much of Eric Hansen's games lately but apparently he has made some positive adjustments to living in Europe. I really enjoyed the following game, a real fighting game with a crisp pleasing finish. It was played in the Bundesliga (the best chess league in the world) and Eric takes off GM Naiditsch (Germany's Number 1 player!) I subscribe to Chess Evolution, GM Naiditsch's quality e-newsletter, so I know how strong he is - fantastic analyst! GM Hansen - GM Naiditsch, Bundesliga, Germany Dec 14, 2013. 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 a6 5.Nc3 Qc7 6.Bd3 Nf6 7.0-0 Bc5 8.Nb3 Be7 9.f4 d6 10.e5 dxe5 11.fxe5 Nfd7 12.Kh1 Nc6 13.Qg4 g6 14.Bh6 Ndxe5 15.Qg3 f5 16.Rae1 Bd6 17.Qh4 Be7 18.Qh3 Bd7 19.Bg7 Rg8 20.Bxe5 Nxe5 21.Qg3 Bd6 22.Bxf5 0-0-0 23.Be4 Rgf8 24.Qh4 h5 25.h3 Kb8 26.Nd2 Bc8 27.Rxf8 Rxf8 28.Rd1 Be7 29.Qg3 h4 30.Qe1 g5 31.Qe2 Rf4 32.Bf3 b5 33.Re1 Nxf3 34.Nxf3 g4 35.hxg4 h3 36.Nd5 hxg2+ 37.Kxg2 Rxg4+ 38.Kf1 Qg3 39.Qe5+ Bd6 40.Qxg3 Rxg3 0-1 A fantastic game and a huge scalp! Eric will have at least two and possibly four or five annotated games in the next issue.

Also, PM me your email (or send it to the editor's email listed on pg.2)
I tried getting in touch with you about an article, but the email I was given didn't work.
