A couple of years ago there were some articles in the newspaper about Iceland using the Canadian dollar as their currency. I don't know how serious they ever got about that. The population of Iceland isn't very large so it probably wouldn't have been a strain.

Didn't Karason miss Qc6 when Aman's Queen was at a8? I don't have the game set up but kind of recall the position and thinking Aman got lucky. Lucky is a good thing. :)

Looking forward to some intense games! Even at my rating of 2472 I am seeded 39th
I see you won your round 6 game and have put an end to that draw streak! Tear them up now. Good hunting.

His last opponent, Kjartan Maack, is probably under rated by FIDE. He plays Correspondence Chess at a level of over 2300. Currently he's playing board 1 for his ICCF champions league team. A 13 player round robin and has drawn the games he has complete including one against the highest rated player on his board.

He has also won an ICCF master class event.

Aman seems to be a tough opponent and although I have not met him, I like his approach and his mental toughness too (perhaps he and Eric Hansen feed off each other's momentum?) In any case, once he shakes off the jet lag and is able to ignore the Iclandic distractions, he will prove to be a problem for a lot of players - IM or GM or whatever.

                          The youngest Gm today.

The youngest GM ever remains Sergey Karjakin - 12 years and 7 months (exactly!) when he became a GM in 2002.
