By the way, who's Anish Giri ? Usually when these names are thrown out they turn out to be the flavour of the day.
I'm assuming your second question is facetious. If not, Anish Giri is the highest rated junior in the world now that Caruana no longer qualifies (turning 21 in July). For further disabuse, proceed to Wikipedia:

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anish_Giri

As to your first question, I'd likely plop any spare cash on Aronian. He's the only player in London not named Carlsen who has maintained a 2800+ FIDE rating for an extended (pushing 3 years now) period of time. He's also won nearly as many major tournaments (10) as Carlsen. While Carlsen is more likely to emerge as Anand's WCC challenger, Aronian is a far better bet.

I'll close with another quote, this time courtesy of another 'good' bet, Boris Gelfand:

In 2011, Boris Gelfand described Aronian as "the most striking player around, with the highest creative level, in terms both of openings and original ideas in the middlegame."

There you go. If Aronian wins you would win your bet, if you placed one. None of the other stuff really matters.

By the way, I didn't say who I think will win. I said who I'd bet to win. To be clear, I don't bet on chess games.

I think the more important question is whether Carlsen is going to play a match against Anand should he win the Candidates? I get the feeling that he may try to pull a Fischer and declare that he will not play a match against Anand because the match conditions are not 100% to his liking.
No matter how big and bad you are, when a two-year-old hands you a toy phone, you answer it.

ChessVibes has an excellent piece on the Candidates with lengthy commentary/predictions from 4 GMs: Fabiano Caruana, Ruslan Ponomariov, Gawain Jones, and Erwin L'Ami.

The first game is tomorrow. Two and a half weeks of exciting action (with a few chess draws as well).

I'm amused by Christian Bauer's obviously facetious comment in his live analysis of today's game between Aronian and Carlsen, to wit:

"funnily" all 4 games have started with 1.d4, even Svidler-Kramnik ; does it mean only weaker players start 1.e4 nowadays ?!

I predict Magnus will soon play "weaker" with e4.:D

Looks like a quiet, solid start with all draws in round 1. More chances for a variety of predictions.

The heavy majority of players at the RA chess club in Ottawa that are rated 2000+ nowadays begin as White with 1.d4. Under 2000 the heavy majority play 1.e4.

Are we going to see the first leader soon? Looks like Radjabov could win against Ivanchuk.

Aronian has found a nice continuation against Gelfand. Is it enough to win the endgame?

I think Gelfand is in even more trouble than Chucky (:

                                My 'guess' is yes.
