Never mind Gary Kasparov, today is Lynn's 85th birthday and a few of us will be joining her for lunch and birthday cake today. Former BC Women's Champion, International Arbiter and longtime organizer, player, TD, chess patron, Chair of the CFC Chess Foundation, CFC Governor, many times BCCF Executive Member and friend of 3 generations of chess players, Lynn still playes chess online, in her home, in coffee shops and occasionally at the Victoria Chess Club.

Last Saturday, my family and chess friends celebrated my 85th birthday with me and I want to thank each one for their kind wishes. I especially want to thank Paul Leblanc and Louise for their help in the past year.
I have enjoyed my time playing chess, and working with and encouraging tournaments with children. I have respect for Larry Bevan, who has worked with scholastic chess for many years.
Some of the many chess highlights for me were: working at the 1988 World Chess Festival in St. John, New Brunswick, where I met many world class players, including Mikhail Tal who won $50,000.00 as the top prize and assisting Jonathan Berry to direct the speed chess tournament in Mazatlan, Mexico; also meeting the Polgar family and directing the first FIDE World Active Chess Championship in Mazatlan with Larry Bevan.
All things considered, it has been an exciting time and I remember when Prime Minister Mulroney met Kevin Spraggett, he said that he had all the right moves when he beat Andrei Sokolov.
