  • Montreal - Père Noel tournament final results

GM Anton Kovalyov finished clear first with 4.5/5. Six players finshed with 4: GM Anton Sambuev, FM Sylvain Barbeau, Hugues Massé, Valentin Prahov, Olivier Tessier. and Kishor Ramaswamy.

The cell phone of a player rang during his game. The opponent didn't mind continuing, but the TD forfeited him anyways.

The number of players of Chinese origin (at least 14) is rapidly catching up to the Eastern European/former USSR numbers.

Cograts to the tourney organizer for the great turnout! (130 players)
No congratulations to the TD forfeiting a player for a ring on a player's cel phone.
Why should directors blindly follow the draconian rules of a FIDE president who is a PETTY DICTATOR?
A tournament director should be free to adjudicate through a sense of good sportsmanship. Surely, the worst that should happen is the offending phone should be confiscated for the duration of that round!
If this is also a CFC rule than they should reconsider or be ignored.
I notice that GM Bator Sambuev lost in round 3 to junior player Louis Jiang rated 2252 but with a published CFC active rating of 1399! Maybe the CFC should stay out of the active ratings business.

A ring of a cellphone disturbs everybody in the room... And the TD advertised everybody before each round of that rule so...
