  • Continental Chess Championship - Bolivia

The Continental Chess Championship 2013 is taking place in Bolivia from May 7th-15th. I'm off to the airport early this morning to begin my day-long journey from Ottawa to Cochabamba, Bolivia.

The tournament is run with an identical format to the Mar de Plata 2012 edition in Argentina where Eric Hansen earned his World Cup spot. As such, norms are worth double, and the top-4 finishers earn a place at the World Cup in Tromso, Norway 2013.

The tournament is 11 rounds and features a pretty competitive field. The pre-registered players as well as results/pairings are available on Chess-Results. At the moment I'm seeded as #15 and will be the only Canadian participating.

The official homepage of the tournament is not very easy to navigate, and I'm not sure to what extent the event will be covered. I hope this information would be posted on the website, though.

Should be a very exciting event to follow. I expect Aman will continue his streak of good performances in latin countries. The atmosphere over there is very pleasant and respectable to chess players. It was quite funny to see GM's go up to Aman and ask how he was so strong with only an FM title.

The black tablecloths at the Newfoundland & Labrador Chess Championships looked sooooo much nicer :D

He's 3/3 now after having won against another FIDE master today (from Peru - the others were a local FIDE master and woman IM). That places him in 3rd with their rankings tie-breaks of 7 others with 3 and a 2992 R(perf) so far.

On my computer it's "only" 1.75... e5,e4, was probably not a good plan :( Still, the position is extremely complex, so who know what can happen.

The transmission seems to be stalled. Oh well, I gotta go out anyway.
