  • What happened to Spraggett's Blog?

This morning there was a "warning - we have received complaints of objectionable content - Do you still wish to enter?" message screen, but I was still able to get in.

Tonight there is a message that "this blog has been removed from Blogspot."

Anybody know where it went (or will go?)

What now even the internet is at the mercy of the most sensitive amongst us? If you don't like his blog, then don't read it.

We are all at the mercy of Dudley Do-right and Nancy Goodshoes - two government morality screeners who live in suburbia and have never been downtown. Soon you'll need a permit to walk outdoors.

actually, I think it is more likely that if you use a free service provided by someone else, blogging software in this case, you are at the mercy of what that service provider wants.

Pretty keen on the free speech rights to spew but not so keen on the software provider's right not to be associated with it eh?

The problem is probably not with what he wrote (unless someone sues him), but more with all the pictures on his blog... Blogspot hosts many blogs for kids and families, so they probably don't want to be associated with pornography (or something that is pretty close to it)...

As someone who has occasionally been the target of Kevin's over-the-top attacks, I nonetheless very much regret and deplore the shutdown of his blog for whatever reason. The actual chess content was first rate and will be sorely missed. Heck, I even liked some of his photos.:)

As I understand the site policy, which permits adult content, his images were not a violation. The shut-down timing coincided closely with the Morgentaler obit, which has me wondering.

I agree 100% with everything you wrote in this post (i.e. about the provider's rights). Seems strange that a blog that has existed in its present form for years suddenly gets noticed by the provider unless someone made a complaint or multiple complaints. If they were complaining because he used their (e.g. a model's) image without their consent then I can understand that. If it's because of the tone in general, then from the maybe two-dozen times I read his blog it seemed pretty tame by internet standards.
