I see this on two different browsers...

If you know of any settings that would make the %'s disappear, please let me know.

    Thanks.

Canadian Game of the Week - Daniluk vs. Persaud

    May-27-13 8:17:23 PM
    Keith MacKinnon
Good evening chess fans. This week's game was played at the March of Kings, a yearly tradition at the Calgary Chess Club. Black's opening goes wrong in the following game, and white exploits his troubles with some neat moves. Have a look. <a href="http://chessflash.com/joo/latest/showpgn.html?pgndata=%5BEvent%20%22March%20of%20Kings%22%5D%0A%5BSite%20%22Calgary%20CAN%22%5D%0A%5BDate%20%222013.03.09%22%5D%0A%5BRound%20%222%22%5D%0A%5BWhite%20%22Daniluk%2C%20Jim%22%5D%0A%5BBlack%20%22Persaud%2C%20Hemant%22%5D%0A%5BResult%20%221-0%22%5D%0A%5BECO%20%22E67%22%5D%0A%5BWhiteElo%20%222048%22%5D%0A%5BBlackElo%20%221769%22%5D%0A%5BAnnotator%20%22MacKinnon%2CKeith%22%5D%0A%5BPlyCount%20%2269%22%5D%0A%5BEventDate%20%222013.03.09%22%5D%0A%5BEventType%20%22swiss%22%5D%0A%5BEventRounds%20%225%22%5D%0A%5BEventCountry%20%22CAN%22%5D%0A%0A1.%20d4%20Nf6%202.%20Nf3%20g6%203.%20c4%20Bg7%204.%20g3%20O-O%20%205.%20Bg2%20d6%206.%20O-O%0Ac6%20%20%0A%207.%20Nc3%20Nbd7%208.%20e4%20Qc7%20%209.%20h3%20a6%20%2010.%20Re1%20%2010...%20e5%20%2011.%20Be3%20Ne8%20%246%20%2012.%20Rc1%20h6%20%246%20%20%2013.%20Qd2%20%0A13...%20Kh7%2014.%20g4%20%245%20exd4%2015.%20Nxd4%20Nc5%20%2016.%20b4%20Ne6%2017.%20Nd5%0A%241%20cxd5%2018.%20cxd5%20Qe7%2019.%20dxe6%20fxe6%2020.%20e5%20%241%20%20Bxe5%20%2021.%20Bxh6%20Rf7%2022.%20Nf3%20%2022...%20Rxf3%2023.%20Bxf3%20Qh4%20%242%2024.%20Bg5%20%2024...%20Qxh3%2025.%20Rxe5%20dxe5%20%2026.%20Qe2%20%2026...%20Bd7%2027.%20Bxb7%20%20%2027...%20Rb8%20%2028.%20Bg2%20Qa3%2029.%20Qxe5%20Rb5%2030.%0AQh2+%20Kg8%2031.%20Qh6%20Qxb4%2032.%20Qxg6+%20Ng7%2033.%20Bf6%20Qf8%2034.%20Rc7%20Qf7%2035.%20Qxg7+%20%201-0%0A" data-mce-href="http://chessflash.com/joo/latest/showpgn.html?pgndata=%5BEvent%20%22March%20of%20Kings%22%5D%0A%5BSite%20%22Calgary%20CAN%22%5D%0A%5BDate%20%222013.03.09%22%5D%0A%5BRound%20%222%22%5D%0A%5BWhite%20%22Daniluk%2C%20Jim%22%5D%0A%5BBlack%20%22Persaud%2C%20Hemant%22%5D%0A%5BResult%20%221-0%22%5D%0A%5BECO%20%22E67%22%5D%0A%5BWhiteElo%20%222048%22%5D%0A%5BBlackElo%20%221769%22%5D%0A%5BAnnotator%20%22MacKinnon%2CKeith%22%5D%0A%5BPlyCount%20%2269%22%5D%0A%5BEventDate%20%222013.03.09%22%5D%0A%5BEventType%20%22swiss%22%5D%0A%5BEventRounds%20%225%22%5D%0A%5BEventCountry%20%22CAN%22%5D%0A%0A1.%20d4%20Nf6%202.%20Nf3%20g6%203.%20c4%20Bg7%204.%20g3%20O-O%20%205.%20Bg2%20d6%206.%20O-O%0Ac6%20%20%0A%207.%20Nc3%20Nbd7%208.%20e4%20Qc7%20%209.%20h3%20a6%20%2010.%20Re1%20%2010...%20e5%20%2011.%20Be3%20Ne8%20%246%20%2012.%20Rc1%20h6%20%246%20%20%2013.%20Qd2%20%0A13...%20Kh7%2014.%20g4%20%245%20exd4%2015.%20Nxd4%20Nc5%20%2016.%20b4%20Ne6%2017.%20Nd5%0A%241%20cxd5%2018.%20cxd5%20Qe7%2019.%20dxe6%20fxe6%2020.%20e5%20%241%20%20Bxe5%20%2021.%20Bxh6%20Rf7%2022.%20Nf3%20%2022...%20Rxf3%2023.%20Bxf3%20Qh4%20%242%2024.%20Bg5%20%2024...%20Qxh3%2025.%20Rxe5%20dxe5%20%2026.%20Qe2%20%2026...%20Bd7%2027.%20Bxb7%20%20%2027...%20Rb8%20%2028.%20Bg2%20Qa3%2029.%20Qxe5%20Rb5%2030.%0AQh2+%20Kg8%2031.%20Qh6%20Qxb4%2032.%20Qxg6+%20Ng7%2033.%20Bf6%20Qf8%2034.%20Rc7%20Qf7%2035.%20Qxg7+%20%201-0%0A">PGN</a> I hope you found the game enjoyable and perhaps even educational. Works for me.

Do you see the same mess with other games too?

Maybe you need to send the specifics to the McGill team. I've never had any problems with IE or Google Chrome

We traded email about this before, but apparently not well enough to make this problem go away.

JKM, you use the Opera browser, right? Have you checked its settings to make sure it has Flash enabled?

Not trying to be funny, but how do I do that?

I get the same problem in Mozilla and I often see FLASH updates processed.

I don't use Opera so I can't give you specific directions. Other browsers have menus like "edit" or "options" and "settings". The settings for Flash are probably in the Security settings.

Another option: download the google Chrome browser and try the site on it.
FWIW: I switched from Firefox to Chrome about a year ago and much prefer it.

It's not about updating Flash. This is about whether you've given your browser permission to run Flash. The PGN player we're currently using on the Newsfeed requires Flash-enabled browsers. If you don't allow your browser to run flash, then you'll get either an empty box (which is what happens on an iPad) or an incoherent mess of text (like you're getting).

I see the game board, moves etc. just fine in Opera. I don't see any explicit mention of Flash in the Opera settings, but Shockwave Flash is a plug-in and I have "Enable plug-ins" under Tools -> Content -> Advanced.

Opera is working fine for me. Do you use any sort of software to block pop-ups or ads? I'm assuming that since you don't know how to enable/disable Flash in Opera that you probably are running a default set-up for Opera. Finally, what version of Firefox and Opera are you running? It all seems a bit odd since I downloaded Opera to test things out and all worked perfectly with the default installation. Finally, I should have asked, what operating system are you running (Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, Linux of some flavour, OSX,...).

Also you could try browsing to http://get2.adobe.com/flashplayer/ with your favourite browser and re-install Flash. You might have Flash enabled for one browser (for example, Internet Explorer and not for Opera).
