Re: June 11th Pre-Registration and Floaters

      Attention:

It looks like we are having a good turnout for the team tournament, so good that we are asking each team to bring a digital chess clock with them to assure that we have enough clocks for the tournament. In fact, some people may not see this message so if you brought 2 digital clocks that should cover any shortage.

Please pass this message on to anyone attending.

Unfortunately, I am unable to attend so I wish everyone good luck and more important, have fun!

        Hi Everyone,

We are at 17 teams now. We have practically unlimited sets and boards. However, we can currently only accomodate 22 teams with clocks (18 of which are digital).

Could each team please bring some digital clocks? If each team brings at least one clock, we can accomodate 36 teams easily.

For those requiring help with set-up of their own clock, I will be manning a clock-setting booth on the day of the tournament.

            Re: June 12th Pre-Registered List

We currently have 18 teams pre-registered.

I will sending in the pre-registered list to the TD at 10am on Friday. Please pre-register before that time to receive the early bird discount.

We can accomodate 18 teams with digital clocks and 4 teams with analog clocks. Could each team please bring one digital clock? It would allow us to accomodate another 18 teams that show up at the door.

Re: 2013 KW June Quick Team Tournament

We are at 16 pre-registered teams.

Although we still have a few extra clocks for the pre-registration numbers, it would be greatly appreciated if each team bring clocks if it is not inconvenient.

We are also looking for a volunteer to take a couple of pictures during the first 2 minutes of rounds. Please let me know at the booth if you are interested.

Thank you and see you tomorrow.

                Re: June 12th Pre-Registered List

Are the team pairings going to be according to gamepoints, matchpoints (2,1,0) or matchpoints (3,1,0)?
In case a team gets a bye how many matchpoints is getting: 2, 1 or 0?

I believe that only matchpoints (2,1,0) will be used for pairing purposes, followed by average QUICK rating. However, gamespoints may be the tiebreak.

I will check this with the TD tomorrow and let you know before the first round.

For taking a planned bye as a team, we really hope that no team does this. We will try to structure the floaters such that there are an even number of teams and no team will sit out a round (and have to play each other).

Please remove the St Catarines team from your pairning as we were unable to bring a team to the tournament.

Re: 2013 KW June Quick Team Tournament

Team Milton made a clean sweep with 5/5. "Anything but that" (formerly Peredun chess school, who asked for a name change) got away with the so-called swiss gambit, and "knights chess" also tied for 2nd-3rd in the field of 17 teams of 4 (making about 70 players, with a few individual floaters playing their own individual matches or small tournament). This could've been a record attendance, and in another report by another of the organizers, they'll be sending out the news. In addition to Kitchener's Concordia club, the city also fielded 3 other teams (including Istvan's SpartaKiss), but teams from Brantford, London, Toronto, Stratford, Guelph and other areas nearby made it in as well. Keith Wight even came by from St. Catherine's again after all to team up into one of the last-minute teams!

Thanks to all for finding the time to enjoy part of the Father's Day weekend playing chess.

Thanks everyone for coming! As Kai mentioned, Team Milton swept with 5/5, the key being the penultimate round match-up against the defending champions. Victor held onto a draw on Board 1 against Shiyam and Mark won against Bob. However, Michael Song and Vladimir Birarov were overpowered by Razvan and Gordon Gooding. This was the only round were Team Milton faced suspense as in all other 4 rounds they won on both Boards 1 and 2, guaranteeing a team win.

Champions of Southwestern Ontario: Team Milton Shiyam, Razvan, Gordon Gooding, Bob Gillanders
Co- Runners up: Anything But That Andrew Peredun, Bill Klarner, Shawn Phillips, Dennis Shamroni
Past Champions, Co-Runners up: Knights of Chess Victor Plotkin, Michael Song, Vladimir Birarov, Mark Plotkin

                              Board Performers:
                              Board 1: Shiyam 4.5
                              Board 2: Razvan 5
                              Board 3: Shawn Phillips 5
                              Board 4: Tony Bao 5

I believe highest record attendance was 73 players and we were close with 70.

Could the mother who took pictures during the rounds please make them available here? Thank you very much.

We are always looking for constructive feedback. I will set up a poll over the next couple of days.
