The rest is pure inspiration on Black's part! blindfolded no less!

The hardest type of blindfold game to play. Finally Moro breaks thru (after repositioning!) and ends with a nice combo.

Somehow I overlooked this earlier but its too incredible not to report. Marc Lang, the world blindfold record holder at 46 boards, set a new type of record - 13 boards at "speed" chess (actually what we would call rapid formerly active chess). Averaging 18 minutes a game (and more importantly with clocks on the games) against a field that included 3 experts and the rest A, B, and C category players (average over 1800) most of them renowned individuals from politics, business, law, and medicine and taking place at the world famous Zurich Chess Club, Marc Lang scored 9 wins, 1 loss, and 3 draws. http://www.blindsimultan.de/ The article is all in German but if you scroll down to the bottom you will see a games viewer of the games (and brief but good notes by Marc) which are of good quality considering they are from a blindfold exhibition. Marc Lang is now the world's foremost authority on playing, promoting, and describing blindfold chess.

                    Blindfold Chess

                    May 5, 2015

The New York Times has an article on a blindfold exhibition by Magnus Carlsen on May 4:

                    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/06/bu...ones.html?_r=0

By Dylan Loeb McClain, it is entitled “At Sohn Conference, Masters of Moves Recognize the Good Ones”

                    An excerpt:

On stage, Magnus Carlsen, the world chess champion from Norway, was wearing a blindfold and playing a timed exhibition against three people: J. Christopher Flowers, the chairman of J.C. Flowers & Company; Paul Hoffman, the chief executive of the Liberty Science Center; and Gbenga Akinnagbe, a star of the HBO series “The Wire.” Two grandmasters, Pascal Charbonneau and Anatoly Bykhovsky, made Mr. Carlsen’s moves as he called out to them, while Maurice Ashley, another grandmaster, provided occasional commentary.

Each player, including Mr. Carlsen, had nine minutes to complete the games. Though Mr. Hoffman and Mr. Flowers have competed in tournaments, Mr. Carlsen had little trouble dispatching all three players.

http://en.chessbase.com/post/carlsen...ld-clock-simul and now there is an amazingly clear video of Magnus performance. Really worth watching! Those not impressed should try it themselves and see (or not see) how they mess up and then understand how difficult Magnus task really was. Very entertaining video.

Recently local master Andrew Peredun told me he had done both boards of a bughouse match blindfold in the past. Not easy keeping track of captured pieces. Impressive!

Unlike Lang's record which looks like the sort of thing that would be very difficult to beat, this one seems relatively easy. I would think two 2200s with similar styles would be able (with practice) to beat this record.

If you're familiar with "Kriegspiel", Leo Williams once played 3 games blindfolded simultaneously in the early 1970's. I have the scores of the games somewhere. :-) Of course - since the exhibitor couldn't make his attempted moves on a board, or speak them out loud - he would write them on pieces of paper. Those reading "Bxa8", "Bxh8", "Bxb7" and "Bxg7" got passed to the referee frequently.
