Re: CYCC 2013 - Final Announcements

    WYCC dates and accommodation:

In January, FIDE published this on the website:

    The UAE Chess Federation advised that they had made an agreement with the University which meant that they were only able to hold the World Youth at the end of December 2013. They also confirmed that all participants would get free food and lodging. The PB reluctantly agreed to this change of dates;
On what I believe to be the official website, this thing is not specified.

The only thing specified in regulation is:
    7. HOSTELS - BOARD & LODGING
7.1. We offer full board in the UAE University to the official players and accompanying
official(s) for each Federation from 17th December to 29th December. Accommodation will be
in the UAE University hostel in Al Ain.

Please start a different thread for different issues. :(

Despite my occasionally Clark Kentish demeanor, I do not have the super-powers necessary to change either FIDE decrees or the traditions of middle-eastern hospitality.

So that people who clicked here expecting to see another announcement about the CYCC are not disappointed, here's one:
the organizers have arranged to have IM Leon Piasetski available in the skittles room to review the just-completed games with CYCC competitors.
      This will be FREE.

Of course, it will be impossible for him to discuss every game with every interested player, so: first come, first served.

        Re: CYCC 2013 - U16-U18 Girls section

        Hi John,

Is it correct to assume that U16G and U18G will play together based on the way is presented on the Registered players list?

If that is going to happen, and hopefully Jackie P will register to CYCC (her sister just registered in U14G) it will be a even number in that section. Plus will be a first when 2 of the Canadian Women Olympiad team are participating in CYCC!

That's the way it looks right now.

But this is still subject to change. If more players enter or withdraw (or can't make it because of some sort of travel issue) then the number of players in a section will change.

            CYCC - FOUR announcements

            1
expect to see provisional pairings TONIGHT (July 9, 2013) on the event website.
I had told people not to expect them before 9:40 am Wed July 10, which is when they will be finalized; but the TDs will post provisional pairings tonight.

            2
as I told many of you tonight: GM Eric Hansen will be one of the players giving the free Saturday-morning simul.

            3
the English language Parliament Hill tour is already over-booked.
We are currently looking for a way to arrange a second English tour group, either for Thursday (between rd.3 and 4) or Friday (between rd.5 and 6). Notices will be posted at the tournament location, and here, and on the CYCC website.

            4
we're also looking for the quickest way to get some extra T-shirts, since the "small" sizes we were delivered would be snug on an anemic toddler. :(

Finally, it was actually nice to see the tired-but-mostly-smiling faces that go with the names I've been reading on my laptop for the past 7 months.
Contrary to what cyber-punk had led me to expect, many of you are actually real.

Sleep well and good luck on Wed.

              CYCC - Round 1 Pairings

They're on the CYCC website's pairings page

              https://sites.google.com/site/ottawa...ycc---pairings

NOTE: the pairings there are PROVISIONAL, they may change before Rd.1 if there are more entries or we are informed about withdraws.

So, find out who you'll (probably) be playing), download Hugh Brodie's CanBase --- updated today with all the latest Canadian chess goodness --- and..... let's get ready to rumble.

Is Monroi being used - and/or duplicate scoresheets? Otherwise - there will be NO games available from this event for posterity.

Re: CYCC 2013 - Final Announcements

I've just heard from John Upper: there will be no Monroi this year. No live games. NO LIVE GAMES. The first time in many years there has been no live games at CYCC.

However, there will be duplicate scoresheets, so Hugh can look forward to keeping busy.

:( We see Monroi less and less often. I wonder if it's because of their disponibility or the customers. When we called them for the 2014 CYCC they seemed enthusiastic. Will there be volunteers entering the games during the tournament?

A month or so ago Hugh offered to have all the games digitized from carbons, and that's what we're doing.

I'm not at the tournament site this morning -- up too late working on the CCN + a phone call from a CYCC parent that woke me up after only 3hrs sleep = -- so I didn't actually see if they put out the carbons for Rd.1. But as of last night, we had a big box of carbon score sheets and one TD told me they'd be putting them on all the boards and another said they'd be on the top 10 in each section.

I know some of the games will be digitized during the event: by me for the August CCN. I don't know if there are plans to do more during the CYCC.

Note for Hugh: we have lots of players going to Montreal for the COQ; so email me and we'll set up an arrangement for delivering them.

Maybe is not to late to call MonRoi and have some live games.

Would be also very nice if the results are posted live on chess-results but I believe that swiss-manager is not the pairing software used at CYCC.

Re: CYCC 2013 - Final Announcements

No live games, not FIDE rated, and not enough clocks. One Windsor boy in the under-14 was told to buy a clock, or play without. The sad thing is, I have lots of clocks, and could easily have sent one with each of the 22 Windsor players.

At the time of writing, final (not provisional) pairings for round 1 have not yet been posted on the website. So with no live games, and slow reporting of pairings and results, it doesn't look good for the peanut gallery.

A 6-round event may have been necessary because of scheduling, but no live games, not FIDE rated, and not enough clocks look like poor decisions and poor organization.

A great shame, a record turnout, and no live games.
