    opponent's first round no-show?
That is the second time in a month when players who did no arrive were paired.

    http://www.fide.com/fide/handbook.ht...3&view=article
    "Late entries
According to FIDE Tournament Rules, any prospective participant who has not arrived at the venue of a FIDE competition before the scheduled time for the drawing of lots shall be excluded from the tournament. An exception may be made in the case of a registered participant who has given written notice in advance that he will be unavoidably late. Where the Chief Arbiter decides to admit a Late Entrant,

if the player's notified time of arrival is in time for the start of the first round, the player is given a pairing number and paired in the usual way.
if the player's notified time of arrival is in time only for the start of the second (or third) round, then the player is not paired for the rounds which he cannot play. Instead, he receives no points for unplayed rounds, and is given an appropriate pairing number and paired only when he actually arrives. In these circumstances, the Pairing Numbers that were given at the start of the tournament are considered provisional. The definitive Pairing Numbers are given only when the List of Participants is closed, and corrections made accordingly in the results charts. A player who is not present cannot receive the Bye.
    "

Use it and it will avoid unnecessary headaches to other players.

This might be possible for a round-robin tournament, but with nearly 300 players it would be impossible to do this... However, we did email her not so long before the tournament, making sure that she had her visa and that she would be here on time. She reassured us and said that she would definitely be here... Unfortunately, it appears that a family member fell sick right before she was leaving.

There is 55 players in the invitational and 40 in the Open. The first day of a tournament is already insane (although we didn't have any other issue), so I wouldn't see us trying to find the 95 players.

            ROUND 6

GM Bruzon is still leading, with 5/6. In round 7, he will play against GM Kovalyov. This sure will be a game to follow! Meanwhile, veteran Arkadiusz Luksza took the lead of the Open section.

            Free snacks and drinks:
We received a generous sponsorship from Pepsico, and have hundreds of chips bags, Munchies peanuts and bottles of water. Thus, we decided to offer free snacks and drinks to all the participants of the blitz tournament and the bughouse tournament. Don't forget to register!

            Game of the Day:
It was a tough day for local GM Thomas Roussel-Roozmon, who lost in 23 moves against GM Arencibia. Here's the game :

            International Marrakech Open:

The international francophone chess association (AIDEF) sent us flyers for its next tournament, the International Marrakech Open.
This association regroups all French-speaking countries and regions (including Canada, New-Brunswick and Quebec).
If you are looking for a nice tournament this fall, this might be the perfect vacations for you :

What happened? The position in the transmission is drawish.

Sulskis had R+N vs Hambleton's R (no Pawns). At 11:30 pm, and at move 103, a draw was agreed. (probably due to the 50-move rule - the last P was captured on move 53).

                  Transmission changed to 1/2.

                  Probably some mistype in C-R.

So now we know that Aman can defend in a long and difficult endgame. GM norm? :)

Aman lost today to that Iranian Grandmaster. His chances to obtain GM norm are very narrow right now? If any?

We still have some issues with our server, and it takes over a day for our files to be updated...

Here's what we have so far (round 1-7). Sorry for the delay, I thought the website would update overnight.

Four players in the Invitational section did not complete the schedule of 9 games. According to the tournament rules, they will not be invited back next year.
A fifth player defaulted in the first round (due to visa problems, I think?). You can figure out who they are by looking at the crosstable.
