        • Hi Bob G:

          But I love stats!!

And I think the stats show the very problem we are having - getting the population to think about HOW they can respond urgently and effectively, IF they agree there is no more time to dither about our climate change suicide.

Do we need something like a world-wide electric & hybrid "climate change car convoy" (CCCC), going to world and provincial/state capitals??

Worse, much worse ... unless push comes to shove by and large most people are simply ... indifferent.

On Nov. 11, 2012, I started an online petition to Stop War ... all war ...

            https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/...utton#comments

... 16 people have signed the petition in just about 10 years.

Most people are all talk and no action ... indifference kills.

              • The same AI method (reinforcement learning) behind the chess AlphaZero program may lead to unlimited free energy from nuclear fusion:

                https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/techn...?ocid=msedgntp

EDIT: we may actually have to start thinking about how to adjust the world economy to unlimited free energy. Think about all the jobs and capital investments around the world centered on fossil fuels .... oil... coal... natural gas... gasoline refineries... supertankers... gas stations...

To suddenly make all of that obsolete will involve dramatic shock waves throughout the world... possibly starting wars....

Yes, this is the insoluble problem. Those fantastically wealth and with tremendous power will never give them up without a terrible fight. Further, the world is not focused on the real problem. We worry about Putin invading the Ukraine and about the pandemic and want to get back to normal rather than change the normal to one that is sustainable. Face it, we are all going off due to our collective greed and stupidity. This is so obvious. Short of a miracle.

                    Methane

Methane is a quixotic warming agent. Unlike carbon dioxide, which persists in the atmosphere for thousands of years, natural forces remove it within roughly a decade, mostly when it reacts with other molecules in the air. But for the brief time methane mixes aloft, it punches far above its weight, producing 80 times the warming effect of carbon dioxide over 20 years. By some estimates, it has been responsible for a third of anthropogenic warming so far, despite receiving far less attention.

It Might Be Time to Take Methane Removal Seriously

An alarming spike in the second-most-damaging greenhouse gas is giving wind to a once fringe idea: Take it out of the air.

Horror of the high seas comes in rogue waves or the steady rise of storm surges

The destruction wrought on coasts by rising ocean levels will in the end be far more dramatic than the odd freak wave.

To Take Climate Change Seriously, the U.S. Military Needs to Shrink

Military vehicles, along with the forces that use them and the industries that supply them, represent a huge climate problem, accounting for 5% of the world’s carbon emissions every year. And there’s no bigger actor in that space than the U.S. military, which sucks up more petroleum than any other institution on earth to fly jets, heat buildings, and ferry food and supplies to 750 bases spread across the world, a process that, all told, produces an emissions footprint greater than that of the entire country of Sweden.

The Americas - City of New York, State of New York, USA

NYC’s Big Clean Energy Plan Is Under Attack From One-Time Advocate

Environmental group Riverkeeper initially supported a proposed 339-mile transmission line from Canada. It’s now asking regulators to reject the deal.

"The $3 billion, Blackstone-backed Champlain Hudson Power Express project could begin construction as soon as mid-year after winning a state contract in November to provide Canadian hydropower to New York City—a key step in the city’s effort to wean itself from dirty fossil fuels. But local advocate Riverkeeper, a powerful environmental group that initially supported the plan, is now asking regulators to reject the deal, arguing that the hydro dams used to generate power are also significant sources of carbon emissions. The Sierra Club shares many of its concerns."

I am wondering if this might give hope to Brad.

We should never give up hope, otherwise there would be no hope.
