General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
I tend to agree with Pargat, though I do admire those more optimistic. We cannot even avoid taking airplanes to play in meaningless chess tournaments in India, so how are we going to expect people to do anything serious about the problems? Mass population reduction is, as I have been saying all along here, the only solution. And it will happen one way or the other, the only question is whether we will do it intelligently and voluntarily, or not. The pandemic was our last possible chance to wake up, we failed horribly. We have sealed our fate.
One of the things I had on my bucket list was a trip to St. Andrews, Scotland, to see the first golf course ever on the planet earth. I will forsake this ambition now in the name of the climate change issue. I will not have this on MY conscience, will YOU?

Well, Brad, it appears the WEF puppet Governments around the World agree with you! The author of this open letter to a UK MP sums it up nicely
replete with references. https://expose-news.com/2022/07/30/g...-and-omission/
Understand that I develop ALL of my opinions completely independently of any media or any opinion of anyone else. I have been thinking this way since I was a child. It is not as if all of this just "dawned on me" with the advent of the inter-propaganda-net and You-propaganda-Tube. The various "theories" mean nothing to me.
Now I'm not sayin' that should make you do a 180 degree term from dire pessimist to realistic optimist. Just that I do believe the future is open, and despite our best calculation of future odds, there can be events which the computer cannot anticipate or take into account.
But I do agree that the situation is now so dire, that I feel my "hope' is getting very close to just "wishful thinking".
But it is a real pain in the butt to have humanity depending on a miracle to avoid species suicide.
Yes, Bob, I do agree, and I am on record as suggesting that a miracle in for form of ET/JC may be coming. I agree that the future is open. But we need this miracle very soon. I suspect it will require a change in the laws of nature with respect to Karma. we will enter a new paradigm of more instant karma. Try to punch me in the nose and your fist will hit your own face, try to shoot me with a gun...

Bob A (T-S/P)
Bob I heard all of this 16 years ago in an Inconvenient Truth. Not one of his predictions came true. The fact of the matter is the sea level goes up about 1.9Mm a year and it's been that way for the last 140+ years. https://news.climate.columbia.edu/wp...5/SLR-NOAA.jpg
I almost did on Friday............10 second heart delay...........but I guess the powers that be (Wherever) want me around when we reach the "tipping point" about Jan1, 2031.....they gave me a pace-maker that Friday and sent me home on Sat., in order to be able to continue to warn on ChessTalk of the coming human species suicide!
The World Meteorological Organization and UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction report that deaths due to natural disasters have decreased by more than half (from around 50,000 to around 20,000) over the past 50 years...we seem to be coping well so far...(even as we find meaning in our worldwide recreational activities, in reference to an earlier post)

Isn't Bob A a perfect candidate for your MPR (Mass Population Reduction)?
You know ... survival of the fittest and all of that jazz, ha!
If we had one tenth of the population then all of us could have ten times the carbon footprint on average and we would have the same total as we do now. It seems to me that part of a reasonably strategy to combat climate change would be to seek to intelligently and voluntarily reduce the population. However there is one serious problem with this approach, the capitalists will not like it because it will mean ending this exploitive economic system which only works if it grows. But the planet is of a limited size and it does not grow along with our population and economy. Thus sooner or later the system will be unsustainable, and to be sure it already is.
I repeat, we are all fucked. The worst problem of all is the fact that so few of us realize it.

The so called 'capitalists' cannot do any mischief unless the government (where the power to do mischief really lies, as Sid would provide loads of evidence for) is hand in hand with them... and the real problem is that the govenments of all stripes love 'capitalists' exploiting the society, as that increases the source of their tax revenues (and tax revenues is what translates into power for the governments)... and ofcourse we should never underestimate the extent of direct and indirect bribery governing government mischief...
