General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
15. Have fun!

Issue: Whether Fulton County (Georgia) District Attorney, Fani Willis, by her affair with the special prosecutor she hired for the Trump ( & 18 others) case, Nathan Wade, has disqualified herself from carrying the case forward.
Judge Scott McAfee is holding a hearing on Thurs., Feb. 13, on this issue.

Wrongful Holding of confidential federal documents (At Trump's Mar-a-logo Residence, post Presidency)
Judge Aileen Cannon has ruled that the names and statements of some witnesses, who gave evidence of Donald Trump's "wrongful withholding", so far anonymous, can be unsealed.
Special Counsel Jack Smith’s has launched a strongly worded motion requesting that Judge Aileen Cannon reconsider her order.
"Mr. Smith warns that Judge Cannon’s order would “disclose the identities of numerous potential witnesses, along with the substance of the statements they made to the FBI or the grand jury, exposing them to significant and immediate risks of threats, intimidation, and harassment.”
There is suspicion that Smith might make an even more dramatic move.......trying to remove her from hearing the rest of the case.
Can the State of Colorado keep Trump off the Presidential Ballot?
"The Supreme Court on Thursday seemed prepared to keep Donald Trump on the Colorado ballot, expressing deep concerns about the ability of a single state to disqualify a candidate from seeking national office. The indications from the justices came as they heard arguments on the unprecedented question of whether Trump should be barred from the ballot because of his actions around the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol."
Bob,
Trump's notion of what is the truth is very similar to yours!
He would like to be the winner of the 2020 election, and so for him the truth is that he is the winner of the 2020 election, despite all the evidence against it.
And you would like DM to be a good ideology, and so for you the truth is that DM is a good ideology, despite all the evidence against it!

"On Feb. 8 [Tomorrow], the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Donald J. Trump v. Norma Anderson et al, a case that could swing a presidential election in a way not seen since Bush v. Gore a quarter-century earlier.
The crux of Trump v. Anderson boils down to this: Should a former commander in chief be disqualified from seeking the presidency again if he engaged in insurrection?"
Sid Belzberg (CT/Trump Thread Post # 163 - 23/8/28) and I (Post # 172 - 23/8/31) have been discussing Capitalism vs Communism (Old-style USSR): Analyzing China's History.
But I feel this discussion should be taking place in the CT thread: New World Order (NWO), sometimes called the Great Reset.
So I have copied my post to there, and will continue to respond to Sid there now.
Developments in TrumpWorld, as of September 1, 2023:
1) Donald Trump's 2024 bid for the Republican presidential nomination may be undone by a section of the 14th Amendment, according to David Shribman in the Globe and Mail of Aug. 31.
Mr. Shribman wrote that, based on this Constitutional Amendment, USA political office CANNOT be held by those who took part in an insurrection, or who gave comfort to enemies of the USA; this was drafted three years after the Civil War ended in 1865, largely to prevent former Confederates (the losing side) from seeking office. (The traitor character -- presidential candidate -- from the 1962 movie 'The Manchurian Candidate' would also fit into this category. This movie was banned from general circulation for many years after it was first released. Fascinating work; so relevant today!!!)
There is a legal challenge on this basis currently filed in state court in New Hampshire, the first primary state (mid-January 2024), to keep Trump's name off the primary ballot there.
If a court were to rule that Trump did, in fact, take part in an insurrection (the Capitol riot in 2021), and / or gave comfort (promising pardons to rioters if he were to be re-elected president in 2024, for example), then he would be disqualified from running, or so the claim goes.
2) Two Proud Boys (far right group) leaders who took part in the 2021 Capitol riots were each sentenced to jail terms of 10+ years in Washington yesterday. Only one longer sentence in this matter has been imposed so far.
3) Trump's Georgia election fraud trial is not yet set. Several of the 19 defendants, including former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, are trying to get their trials moved to federal courts, and Meadows voluntarily took the stand this week in Atlanta with this in mind; he was questioned by prosecutors, apparently giving up much useful information which could be used against both him and others, in the future. Some defendants are aiming for an early trial date; Trump wants to separate his trial from theirs.
4) Trump's New York state fraud charges trial has now begun in New York City, with the state Attorney General seeking $250 million in damages, and to shut down the Trump Organization from doing future business in the state. Defendants are Donald Trump, his sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, but not daughter Ivanka Trump or son-in-law Jared Kushner. The Trump Organization's former Chief Administrative Officer (a Mr. Weisselbourg) has already been found guilty in this matter (he was fined and served jail time), and will likely testify against his former bosses. A recent news development is the trial prosecution's accusation that Trump inflated his net worth by as much as $2.2 billion, to get more favorable loans terms from banks.
5) Trump's 'Mistresses cover-up' trial is set for April 2024 in New York; on this one, it is the Manhattan District Attorney in charge.
6) Trump's federal election interference trial is set to start in Washington on March 4, 2024. There are more than 11 million pieces of evidence transferred so far from the team headed by Special Counsel Jack Smith to the Trump defense team, which had asked for more time (April 2026). The Super Tuesday Primary date (with 15 states holding their primaries) is the next day.
1) Western assistance to Mao (and Kuomintang) that I referred to was during (and shortly after) World War II.
2) Certainly Lenin was far from blameless, I agree. It was Trotsky, in charge of Red forces, who won the Russian Civil War after the 1917 revolution. But with Stalin in charge, after 1924, atrocities in the USSR reached an entirely new brutal level. Between 10 million and 15 million people in the USSR either disappeared, were put to death, sent to forced labor camps, or were genocide victims through starvation when food was available (in Ukraine) before World War II. Some fortunate ones emigrated, mostly to North America.
3) Interesting comparison by Dilip between economies today for Sweden and Canada: one big difference is that Sweden was already a developed nation by 1900. Western Canada was just being settled by farmers then; one family of which (one of my grandfathers) emigrated FROM Sweden!! For example, Canada didn't have a fully paved 2-lane Trans-Canada highway until 1962!!! Sweden stayed out of both World War I and World War II, which saved them tens of thousands of lives and vast resources; Canada took part fully in both wars, right from the starts, with enormous battlefield losses relative to its fairly small population, and sent extraordinary food and weapons resources overseas, to assist. Relative to Sweden, Canada is still very much building its nation. One item very much needed: an alternative road and rail system out of Yellowknife, around the eastern end of Great Slave Lake (the wildfires showed this!!!).
4) Socialized medicine in Canada began in Saskatchewan in 1944, with the provincial governing CCF party (today's NDP) bringing in the first plan. Doctors opposed it strongly, but were eventually persuaded. It was well managed economically. National socialized medicine started in the 1960s with PM Pearson, a Liberal, from a minority government supported by the NDP. The USA, the world's wealthiest large nation, still has nothing comparable; Obamacare is an improvement, to be sure.
5) China's economy is struggling today, after several decades of spectacular growth. They may have reached the limits of a command economy. If they were to move further towards democracy in the coming years, their economy would respond, in my opinion.
