General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
15. Have fun!

Trump: Set to declare 2024 presidential bid tonight; will indictments follow soon?
"On Feb. 8 [Tomorrow], the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Donald J. Trump v. Norma Anderson et al, a case that could swing a presidential election in a way not seen since Bush v. Gore a quarter-century earlier.
The crux of Trump v. Anderson boils down to this: Should a former commander in chief be disqualified from seeking the presidency again if he engaged in insurrection?"
Bob,
Trump's notion of what is the truth is very similar to yours!
He would like to be the winner of the 2020 election, and so for him the truth is that he is the winner of the 2020 election, despite all the evidence against it.
And you would like DM to be a good ideology, and so for you the truth is that DM is a good ideology, despite all the evidence against it!

Can the State of Colorado keep Trump off the Presidential Ballot?
"The Supreme Court on Thursday seemed prepared to keep Donald Trump on the Colorado ballot, expressing deep concerns about the ability of a single state to disqualify a candidate from seeking national office. The indications from the justices came as they heard arguments on the unprecedented question of whether Trump should be barred from the ballot because of his actions around the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol."
Wrongful Holding of confidential federal documents (At Trump's Mar-a-logo Residence, post Presidency)
Judge Aileen Cannon has ruled that the names and statements of some witnesses, who gave evidence of Donald Trump's "wrongful withholding", so far anonymous, can be unsealed.
Special Counsel Jack Smith’s has launched a strongly worded motion requesting that Judge Aileen Cannon reconsider her order.
"Mr. Smith warns that Judge Cannon’s order would “disclose the identities of numerous potential witnesses, along with the substance of the statements they made to the FBI or the grand jury, exposing them to significant and immediate risks of threats, intimidation, and harassment.”
There is suspicion that Smith might make an even more dramatic move.......trying to remove her from hearing the rest of the case.
Issue: Whether Fulton County (Georgia) District Attorney, Fani Willis, by her affair with the special prosecutor she hired for the Trump ( & 18 others) case, Nathan Wade, has disqualified herself from carrying the case forward.
Judge Scott McAfee is holding a hearing on Thurs., Feb. 13, on this issue.

A New York judge ruled Friday against Donald Trump, imposing a $364-million penalty over what the judge ruled was a yearslong scheme to dupe banks and others with financial statements that inflated the former president’s wealth.
Judge Arthur Engoron issued his decision after a 2½-month trial that saw the Republican presidential front-runner bristling under oath that he was the victim of a rigged legal system.
The stiff penalty was a victory for New York Attorney-General Letitia James, a Democrat, who sued Trump over what she said was not just harmless bragging but years of deceptive practices as he built the multinational collection of skyscrapers, golf courses and other properties that catapulted him to wealth, fame and the White House.
Trump’s lawyers had said even before the verdict that they would appeal.
Republican Primary - Insurmountable Electoral Lead
"“I’ve been the underdog in every race I’ve ever run. I’ve always been David taking on Goliath,” Ms. [ Nikki] Haley said. “And like David, I’m not just fighting someone bigger than me. I’m fighting for something bigger than myself.”
While Ms. Haley is vowing to stay in the race through the bitter end, the states coming up immediately after the South Carolina primary don’t look much more favorable to her than her home state [Trump - 63%; Haley - 35%; she is a former governor!).
Just less than two weeks after South Carolina’s primary there will be 15 states and one territory voting on Super Tuesday, on March 5. A quick survey of polling in these states finds that Ms. Haley is unlikely to win any of them."
Wrongful Taking of Official Documents from the White House
President Trump could soon discover whether his criminal trial for hoarding classified documents at Mar-a-Lago will fade into the mists of indefinite delay or instead keep him pinned to a South Florida courtroom just as the general election campaign gains steam.
Republican Primary - Insurmountable Electoral Lead
[Today],Trump Defeats Haley in South Carolina, Her Home State [She is a former governor].
The GOP race is becoming a less-contested one. Yet Republican leaders see enthusiasm for the former president. Others worry whether he can win in November.
