Re : Re: Canadian Open : First GMs

Thanks to all those who referred us grandmasters, we already received over 20 requests to play in the tournament, with 7 months to go before the start of the tournament!
We never had such an interest in a tournament, and the fact that the tournament is held in a five star hotel in downtown Montreal probably helps a lot. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accomodate all these GMs, but hopefully we will have a very interesting field.

The next GM to play is Elshan Moradiabadi. This young GM from Iran is now an MBA student at Texas Tech University, which won the Final Four of collegiate chess in 2012. He played last year at the Quebec Open and wrote a great article on Chessbase.

This time, we are glad to announce the participation of a WGM : Pina Vega Sulennis from Cuba. She won Cuba's Women Championship in 2005 and participated in 6 Olympiads.
She will be giving a simul at the CYCC and will perhaps inspire our top female junior players. She will be accompanied by WIM Yuleikys Fleites Marti and IM Orlen Ruiz Sanchez.

The next grandmaster doesn't need to be introduced anymore : GM Anton Kovalyov.

He is the highest rated player in Canada and was the 6th highest rated junior in the World in 2011. Since he has been living in Montreal, he won the Quebec Junior Championship, the Quebec Invitational championship, the Quebec Closed championship and numerous weekend tournaments.
