  • Good Luck for Canadian juniors who are hunting the norms now in Las Vegas

We have 7 Canadian players in the Open Section of the North American Open this year. 4 IMs, 2 FMs and 1 WIM. It's last round and a couple of juniors have the choice to get the norms.

    Good Luck to everyone!

Also Happy New Year to all.

After the 8th round, the standing is here: http://chesstournamentservices.com/c...-open-section/

Roman Sapozhnikov drew his last game - must be OK for IM norm.

Looks like an IM norm to me:

1/3 must be GM or IM:
      2 GM, 4 IM

      50% must be title holders:
      8/9

max from 1 fed is 6:
      6 USA, 2 CAN 1 CHI

0 GM Yi Wei 2604 CHN
1 Akshay Malhotra 1995 TX, USA adjusted to 2050
1 IM Leonid Gerzhoy 2481 CAN
0 IM John Daniel Bryant 2401 CA, USA
0 IM Igor Zugic 2462 ON, CAN
1 FM Eugene Yanayt 2220 CA, USA
1 GM Larry Christiansen 2582 MA, USA
1 FM Kevin Wang 2333 MD, USA
0.5 IM Michael A Mulyar 2423 CO, USA

5.5-3.5 needs avg opponent rating of 2370-2400
Above average for Roman is 2395!

Good news guys. :) Indeed, it was confirmed that I got the norm! I believe that Razvan also got one with 6/9!

Congrats! Nice to see Canadians traveling outside of Canada and achieving good results. Playing in Canada exclusively is usually bad for long-term chess progression I think because with the small player pool you can get away with things you normally shouldn't.
