A beautiful win by German GM. Arkady Naidish over the current World Champion -GM. Magnus Carlsen, today at the Chess Olympiad in Norway!

Um. Nigel. Have you not noticed the extremely selective re-editing of this clip? Do all the strange cuts in the frame not... register at all? Plus, if you understood any of what was being said, instead of only the spoonfed subtitles, you would also notice that this isn't a "public figure" but a journalist from Ukrainian Week who is in fact saying nothing like what the clumsy re-editor of the clip makes it look like.

Also, FYI, Hromadske is a web-only startup that is financed by viewer contributions, and is hardly "national TV".

Dude, this is pretty pathetic even for what I've seen of you. I think this is what the kids today call #epicfail.

      • epic fail?

You're welcome to start a new thread on the topic. The quality of a video, however, is in my opinion less important than the number of human casualties - men, women and children - and the hundreds of thousands of refugees driven from their homes by the brutal regime in Kiev. Perhaps you could start by parsing those facts into an "epic fail" as well.

        • Re: epic fail?

The quality of the video is extremely important, Nigel, because if this is the kind of thing you get your news from, you are being fooled by obvious BS. But, yes, it doesn't belong in a thread about the Olympiad. I'm happy to let this be my last word on this subthread, provided you don't delete it.

Yuan - Sanchez Castillo just listed as drawn! But how? Yuanling was down 3 pawns for the exchange, and one of those pawns was about to queen. Am I missing some tactic, or was Black desperately short of time?
                    - OK, I see they revised the result. Too bad for Yuanling and the Canadian team, but good for the French Defence...

It's clearly winning for Black and I can't believe Black would have taken the draw since this is the decisive game of the match. Yuanling probably resigned and the result is not correctly entered (although I'd be happy to be wrong).

I had the same question(s). Both players are low on time but it looks like Black has more time 1:48 to :50 so I don't get it. The 30s increment should give plenty of time.

On the official site, the result of Yuan-Sanchez Castillo has just been changed and scored as a win for Black, Sanchez Castillo. The Stockfish analysis says, "Black can mate in 16 moves". The match is therefore drawn, Canada 2, Venezuela 2.

After my criticism earlier, I think it's only fair to commend Nava Starr for turning things around.
