The Norway '1' team could only manage the same 2-2 score as their '2' team, conceding 4 draws to the #56 team, Finland. The #3 board for Finland, Vilka Sipili, drew his game with the 1.Na3 'Sodium Attack' (:

Can anyone quickly explain the rules regarding the assignment of boards by the various teams? I notice a number of teams switching up their board order, presumably to get a better pairing on this board or that, and I'm wondering if Canada could or should do such a thing as well.

Stacking the boards is nothing new. I suggested we do it a couple of Olympiads ago but that did not happen. I'm too lazy to look up the thread.

Victor Plotkin is a good captain. Probably one of the best options we have coming out of Canada.

The fixed board order (FBO) had to be submitted by August 1st. Team captains were free to submit that list in any order they so chose but can not deviate from said submission thereafter.

As far as I know you can assign any player you want to a board before the start of the event. Then he can only play UP one board if someone is being rested or ill or for strategic reasons. You can not have one player on board 4 in one match and board 1 in the next match but if you assigned him board 4 he may play board 3.

P.S. Thanks for the info about board order guys. What's been said makes sense. So if a team places their strongest player in position 4 or 5, that's it. (e.g., Palestine has a 2311 IM playing on board 4. Pity the 1803 player on board 2.)

I don't see how that's a win for Yuanling. I know it was showing 1-0 on the results but that looks like a loss to me. Both players had plenty of time left.

Technical positions are Bator's weak point. Very odd for a GM. Raises questions how he got the GM title.

Norway has many titled and strong correspondence chess players. It's not hard to imagine they could field two competitive FIDE Olympiad teams. Maybe both top 35 placings.
