    Re: Reykjavik Open 2014

The ChessResults site has Eric's performance rating from the four games as 3134 ! WOW!
In the old days when the Elo Rating system was first invented, his performance rating would have been calculated (for a perfect score) as 400 points above his opponent's average rating - in this case a very respectable 2734. Looks like ChessResults makes it 800 points above the opp avg.

      Isn't it freezing though?
Reykjavik has warmer winters than New York. Average temperature during the tournament has been 0 C, with lots of rain and snow (possibly no sun at all, so far).

Nice pairing for Eric, who performing at the 3134 level, should make short work of his opponent - performance 2647 (only) :)

http://www.reykjavikopen.com/round-4-2 Check out analysis GM Walter Browne - GM Robin Van Kampen. Starts at 2:50 on video. Walter Browne still has the same nervous energy at age 65 (and is still alive) Amazing! Also its been nice to see Eric Hansen live - he's been getting alot of exposure.

Nice to see guys like Browne and Timman (at Tata Steel) still playing a decent game. Inspiration for us older players :)

Thanks for the kind words everyone. It's just been updated with round 4 and a tour of the Golden Circle. I'm still a round behind as the first few days were just so busy (we just finished round 5), but should be up-to-date by tomorrow.

Geordie Derraugh got a nice WGM scalp today, defeating Tatev Abrahamyan, who's 200 FIDE rating points above him, at 2376. Sweet.

Shes probably in depression now thinking who is Geordie Derraugh? - now she knows. Seriously tho after losing to Alex, Geordie is now back in the tournament.

Rd6 Walter Browne survived a -2 position to win a key game against GM Grandelius. Was there time pressure? That would be Walter's element.
