General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
According to Wayne Komer's post above, (he gives only 9 players for Bator's section), the players are >>>>
GM Yuniesky Quesada (Cuba), 2642
GM Emilio Cordova (Peru), 2611
GM Isan Ortiz (Cuba), 2604
GM Danyyil Dvirnyy (Italy), 2560
GM Bator Sambuev (Canada), 2571
GM Yuri Gonzalez (Cuba), 2551
GM Yusnel Bacallao (Cuba), 2551
IM Carlos Hevia (Cuba) 2520
IM Yasser Quesada (Cuba) 2493
NN ...........................................2500?
Opp avg R = 2566
With NN, avg R = 2559
If the tenth player, yet to be determined is rated 2500, then the average rating of Bator's opponents would be 2559.
And so the par performance for Bator's rating to remain unchanged would be 50% - i.e. 4 1/2 from nine games.

Actually, I'm not familiar with the current FIDE rating formula but assuming it's based on the Elo math, Bator would gain rating points for any score of 5 points or better. With 4 1/2 points, he might lose 2 or 3 points.
And if the 10th spot is still open, an additional Canadian might apply to enter. :) The section is already heavy with Cubans.
Thank you Vlad!
I was always sure that a man has to be responsible for his words. He is sure that I cannot compete with GM's. Prove it and make easy money! In other case - keep your mouth closed and maybe people will think that there is something in your empty head. Money talks...

No other Canadians interested in trying for a GM norm? It may be that the tenth spot will be alloted to an additional Cuban, but
if it's still open, why not? CFC Pres Vlad Drkulec would know - call him!
Grandmaster Leinier Dominguez has won the Capablanca Memorial four times; the 2014 edition promises to be the most challenging
Dominguez won for the first time in 1998, the Master 1 with 9/13. He was only 15 years old and was, along with Bruzón Lazarus, the most promising figure of the Cuban chess.
Then Leinier won the Elite group title in 2004, 2008 and 2009. In 2013 he finished in third place, behind Zoltan Almasi of Hungary and Yuniesky Quesada. A year later, Dominguez is considered by all the favorite to win the strongest, most historic event in Latin America.
The list of participants the top winner of all time, Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk (2753) who has achieved six titles and other very strong rivals like Wesley So (2731), Francisco Vallejo (2700), Almasi (2693) and Bruzón (2682); however, the Cuban appears ready to "take Havana by assault."
After his brilliant performance in the Russian League, where he played for the St. Petersburg Club and managed five points from a possible six, his ELO increased to 2768 units, entering officially into the Top 10 ranking world. Now Domínguez shall make every effort in the Capablanca to get 5.76 points in 10 games to keep his high coefficient.
How have the historical results of Domínguez against his five opponents of the Capablanca Memorial? A query to the database of chessgames.com returned this information:
vs. Vassily Ivanchuk: classical games, 5-2, in favor of Ivanchuk, with 17 draws.
vs. Zoltan Almasi: have met only twice, both in the 2013 edition of the Capablanca Memorial with both games drawn.
vs. Wesley So: Leinier won the only contest between them, just this year, in the Tata Steel Chess Tournament in Wijk aan Zee. The Cuban crushed the Filipino in just 21 moves.
Does anyone know if we can follow the games live OR even see them when finished?
Thanks,
Ken

Because the games will be completed after the supper hour – my intention is just to give the games of Bator and of Vassily Ivanchuk at the end of the day.

The two favorites met in the first round. Dominguez seemed to have the better of it after Black’s 16..d4. White’s 34. e6 wasn’t quite good enough and the game ended in a draw.
I thought names like Nepomniachtchi, Ponomariov and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov were difficult but these four-barreled Spanish names seem even worse! Apologies for mangling some of them.
___________
First prize in the Elite is 1800 CUC and 800 CUC in the Premier. CUC stands for Cuban Convertible Pesos. In Canadian dollars, the prizes are $1950 and $867. Going through the various news services looking for comments on the Capablanca doesn't give me much amusement but I laughed out loud at an online column from the Philippine SunStar, written by Frank "Boy" Pestano.
The quote: Wesley So. The Capablanca Memorial, which has been held annualy in Cuba since 1992 in honor of the former world champion from 1921 to 1927, started yesterday. It is one of best paid tournaments in the world.
Wow, $1950 for first prize!
As soon as the Sambuev game appears, I will post it.
I’ve gone to all the usual sites but there is nothing. If anyone finds it before I do, please post.
If our man in Havana sees this, maybe he will favor us with the score.
__________
The official site had a lot of old material on it – some things not updated for two years. I’ve had to be cautious when looking through Cuban tournament information.
ChessResults appears to have the player list for the Open Tournament:
The ending was White: Q and “a” pawn, Black: Q with White having the better of it but Chukky pulled off the draw.
________
The on-line newspaper JIT mentioned Bator in one sentence:
GM Yuniesky Quesada (2642) recovered from his previous setback and, with the white pieces, defeated Canadian GM Bator Sambuev (2562) in 65 moves in a Philidor Defence.
That’s all I got. No game scores. Every player seems to be named Quesada Perez… Covering this tournament is worse than pulling teeth.
