Are games available from the other events (Senior, Amateur, etc,)?

I had to be in Toronto for a family related issue. But did IM Akshat Chandra withdraw from the tournament?

If this is the case, I'm very concerned about the departure of the American delegation... Especially considering that FM Trung Nguyen had also withdrawn from the tournament. I understand that sometimes people are busy, but there should be some very serious reason -- perhaps American players don't like the food?

He did the same thing last year at Quebec Open.

A lowly 2250 player getting the IM title for free (Andrew Tang). What an embarrassment to titled players who work hard to get their norms and a 2400 rating.

I tip my hat to Razvan Preotu. A hard working teenager who managed to achieve the elusive 2400 without much difficulty and should very soon be a GM.

With the K-factor being at 40, I think he'll be like 2350 after the tournament and won't be far away lol

                    Hi John,

Can I include some of them in the chessbase report?

Unfortunately, the editor Friedric Friedel will not be impressed with his friend, IM Akshat Chandra, withdrawing from the tournament.

Andrew Tang is actually a FM ...

Yes. Just make sure to add photo credit: photos by John Upper.

BTW I have more, and will add one of the winner (assuming I have a good one) when the event is over.

Agree, but you should def. mention that AC withdrew as soon as his chance for a GM norm was gone.

You can't be throwing rumours around. Unless you are absolutely certain AC withdrew as soon his chance for a GM norm was gone, include it in your report.

it's not really free, he did beat chandra. also, people in the US don't play that many FIDE tournaments and most US players are underrated FIDE. Further Tang is from minnesota. it's really quite hard to get a lot of FIDE tournaments in if you live there unless you spend a fair amount of cash. maybe he doesn't have access to a lot of cash. also his 2250 fide rating was built on the old k-factor, which, note goes down at 2300. It seems unfair to call it an embarrassment, when he's worked hard too and played fair and square.

                              Final standings

Please note that these are not the official standings. I used SwissManager and Median Bucholz 2 tiebreaks might be different than SwissSys.
