    Re: History in the making?

Polina managed to hold her game, making that Medain Buchholz number still unclear. But it doesn't appear Qiyu may have to worry about a Median Buchholz since she's up a whole pawn and assuming she converts, she's the Gold Medal winner (:

Qiyu is still up that pawn and Stockfish has Qiyu 1.44 pawns to the good. My only concern now is the clock. Qiyu has less than 5 minutes on her clock vs Anastasia's 31:28.

I hope Qiyu offered that draw because she knows she's won the Median Buchholz and not strictly due to zeitnot. The Median Buchholz was decided on the bottom boards since the number was dead even from top ten board action.

Draw... Not easy to convert, but still must be a win somewhere. Now it's all about numbers.

So...does that mean she won the tournament?..

Lol, you should know better than us, Nikolay, since you're in Durban (:

The Median Buchholz number decides Qiyu's fate and that number is dead even from top ten board results. Qiyu lost a 1/2 point due to today's pairings but gained that back on other top ten boards, specifically Ashritha's win on board 7. Too bad ChessBomb doesn't cafrry the top 20 boards because then I could tell you for certain whether Qiyu gets Gold or Silver.

There's a replayable version of the round 11 game (with quick notes by me) on the CFC Newsfeed:

                  Re: History in the making?

If there was a winner on board 15, then that likely decided the Median Buhholz number. That was where the #22 seed, Mathilde Broly, from France, played the #42 seed, Venia Lymysalo, from Austria. Mathilde was one of Qiyu's opponents and Venia was Oliwia's so that's a possible full point swing to that Median Buchholz. Let's hope Mathilde did Qiyu a big favour (:

NN, can you get a GM norm if you beat Eric in the last round?

The TD told me, that, yes, a win would be required..well can't say I did not try.

Nobody knows anything yet. Now we just have to keep refreshing the standings page.

A win was enough to get the GM norm. 2425 is the minimum average rating of the opponents for 8 points and he had 2426
                          :(
