Re: Re : Global climate change
If the jet stream is so easy to predict without taking into consideration El Nino and the upper air systems then the scientists could get rich with Orange Juice futures. So simple is predicting the weather.

It is not an « inconvenient thruth » at all.Originally posted by J. Ken MacDonald View PostAm I the only one who noticed that it used to be called GLOBAL WARMING until that proved to be "An Inconvenient Truth" and then the name changed to Climate Change?
Scientificaly, not only there is little doubt that there is a global warming, but the question is how to manage the now unavoidable climate change that it is provoking. There is now very few credible climatologists worldwide not recognizing man-made global warming, and good chance to find anything published by them in the past 5 years in a peer-reviewed publication. Not because they are muzzled, but because the evidence are extremely strong.
Many people don't understand that global warming can have many apparently counter intuitive effects, like having a colder Winter (we have this because the jet stream is weaker, and the arctic cold air can now go much furter to the south - of course it means that the north is also warmer).
For example, many people present as evidence that there is no global warming the fact that the sea-ice cover around Antarctica have increased recently, something that was missed by most models. But the fact is that there is more ice because it is melting, and most models underestmated at which speed the continental ice would move into the ocean. A similar process is happening with Groenland, tough the main models here got much closer to the measured data.
One thing that is often forgoten, is that most of the heat is not absorbed by the air, but by the water and the ice. The air can only absorb a small part of this energy. Also the melting of so much ice put a temporary presure to cool the oceans water. Finally, considering that the sun is exceptionaly quiet and colder than usual for at least 2 solar cycles, there must be an explanation why all those glaciers are now melting so quickly.

Re: Global climate change
The term "Climate Change" was adopted by some over a decade ago by those who thought it a better term than "Global Warming". But for all practical purposes, it is the same.Originally posted by J. The greenhouse effect causes the planet to heat up, "Global Warming". This in turn causes "Climate Change".
Global Warming/Climate Change is indeed "an inconvenient truth" as we need to change our ways. Assuming we can do anything we want and Mother Earth will provide us with a habitable environment is naive.Last edited by Bob Gillanders; Wednesday, 4th March, 2015, 11:36 AM.
