Re: Niagara Falls Open 2015 Standings

While organizers are not obligated to post anything I find few make use of email which costs nothing but time. If organizers collect email addresses of players they can send out a notice/flyer/ad for their next event. Then after the event they can send out a thank you for playing and link to the crosstable on the CFC site. Even interested parties who didn't play can be put on the mailing list. This customer relations will bring back the regulars and some who may have been inactive recently. Have to reach the inactive, once a year or two guys who don't actively visit chesstalk or CFC sites looking for tournaments.

imho if organizers spam this forums with their tournament announcements, pre-reg lists, other blahblah on regular bases before tournaments, then they must post results too or at least a link where they are posted promptly.

No, no, no. Totally disagree! Everyone knows where the results are posted by wednesday (or thursday) with ratings.
You need a link? Don't be so lazy. :(

And, if you want to see game scores, well nobody is stopping the players from posting their games. Duh....

I agree with you, Bob. An organizer shouldn't have to provide any information to non-participants if he chooses not to.

But they are free to advertise to anyone of course. I agree with Egid (to a point) - after all the updates to the pre-reg lists and all the hype (all well and good) it seems reasonable enough to at least post the results in the same thread. I don't believe people who have no skin in the game should complain if it isn't posted in a timeframe they want.

                there are two points:

                1) participants in the event are fully entitled to see final standings ASAP. In this day and age, that means posted online at the end of the tournament or within one day. And the CFC tournament crosstable which comes out later does not include prize distribution info.

                2) Reporting on the event is a form of advertising for next year's event. Organizers are remiss if they don't take the opportunity to promote their tournament by providing a report while the iron is hot.

Organizers posted tournament advertisements in this forum and it must be the sole responsibility to post results after the tournament to keep the public informed and updated on the same forum or at least provide a link. Responsible organizers may collect signed score sheets for submission to Hugh Brodie for CanBase compilation for integrity not the players.

John should have labeled this post "early leaders after 3 Rounds." If you gave up playing chess then why not come out to Niagara Falls next year and start playing again.
If you want me to come back to chess tournament, I don't see a value for my annual membership of $48, however, if CFC issue back the monthly magazines in paper format, I might consider or think about joining back again.

Re: Niagara Falls Open 2015 Standings

                      To all who have commented:

I have never posted a crosstable on Chess Talk since I have been running tournaments in Niagara Falls. That will not change. I have never collected score sheets from players in my tournament and don't plan to start to do that either. Just the way it has been.

The reason there was no post right after the tournament, is I had knee surgery on the Tuesday. I had a lot to get ready before the surgery and wasn't able to get on to post until the Friday at the earliest as I couldn't bend my knee.

If this is all important to you, then you guys should run tournaments. There seems to be a believe that tournament directors should do all this extra work, but also pay out a decent prize fund and take no money for themselves. There is a lot of work required to run a tournament.

The tournament was posted on the CFC website first, before here. Those who pre-register like to see if their registration has been received and also to see who they might be paired against.

                      Just my two cents worth.

                        +1

Maybe what some are really after is a copy of the extra-colorful wall chart that John Brown produces in Niagara Falls each year? :)
(I'd post a photo of one from last year, but can't seem to upload it - have images been turned off in ChesssTalk?)

All the best; I hope you have a speedy recovery and enjoy the change(s) in your knee!

If you are not playing in a tournament then we have no obligation to provide any information what so ever.
As I stated before if an organizer wants to post here they can.

Hugh Brodie we do not keep carbon score sheets and we never ask for any player to give us a copy of their game.
The IM's know how to post on chess talk if they want their games published or if any chess player wants to post their games they can do it freely.

We provide a service of running a tournament and providing prizes. Other tournament directors and organizers may provide more that is their niche.
Ours is to give out as many prizes as we can and allow everyone a chance at a prize. That is our goal and nothing more.
Our results are posted on CFC web site.
That is all that we are required to do.

Hi Roger if you were at the event you can see the cross table results and if you stay to the end you can see the prize winners. Ask Paul Leblanc he was there.
I believe this year we had 50 plus players and we gave out 22 plus prizes if you include ties. How many prizes did the Easter weekend in BC give out based on # of entrants?

Our thread was after 3 Rounds we never made a final post of results.
