Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party

Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.

Aurora Opens has a 0+3+2 format too. There are several reasons and they transform into "time is money": a rent, personal matters. 0+2+2 looked too short for a tournament :)

What's the goal with adjourning the games? to avoid the energy spent late at night? If so I don't really understand it because those who analyze the position will spend more energy than they would if they played the games, and preparation for the next game is no longer possible. It also opens up an avenue for engine use. A possible situation is where a young child adjourns the game, and the parents decide to look at the game with an engine, and their child asks for help and they give some hints. I'm not saying people would use them, simply that it opens up that possibility. If your playing a game otb you can be pretty sure your opponent isn't cheating, but once they go home and analyze it and their playing well it can make you suspicious. I've played a few three games a day tournaments and it is fairly nice to have the Friday night free. That's my 2 cents.
The sole reason is to start the rounds on time. That's it. Nothing else.
You have pointed out some of the reasons not to do it.
The question is: Are the problems it creates, greater than the benefit of starting rounds on time?

We have 22 players on board now with the latest inclusion of IM Kaiqi Yang ( China ) who lives in Toronto now. We also have a player from USA, Brian Sayers who organized the Can-Am International back in June. Cheers !!!

It might help for Torontonians, if it can be confirmed that there is not going to be any Toronto Labour Day Open this year on the first weekend of September.
The reason I wonder this is that neither the key organizer, Randy Moysoski, nor the usual arbiter, Bryan Lamb, have made any post to my knowledge that it is going to happen this year. I have checked the CFC Calendar and GTCL calendar, and it is NOT there (at least not yet, with only about a month to go). Can you confirm whether it is NOT happening??

Not too sure about Toronto Labour Day tournament. I thought it was a tradition which will definitely be held every year so i put it in my WCC website. I have edit the chess calendar for the time being. Hope it will be on though.

Even if FIDE allows it, 12 hours of play a day is nonsense.
With faster time controls, three games a day becomes manageable if playing time is reduced to 9-10 hours a day, even if I personally think it is still too much.

I would agree Jean, that 12 hours a day (or even 9-10) is nonsense, but we are talking about a weekend Open here - not an Interzonal or something where professional players are in the majority... The pronouncements of FIDE are governed by aliens though!

Why do weekenders have to be exhausting to the extreme and unpleasant for normal people with a life outside of chess ? Because they are meant for amateurs ?
This is also nonsense. There is absolutely no reason to make amateurs play chess 12 hours a day and expect them to return for more.

I totally agree that playing 3 games a day is too exhausting but you have to budget your time and conserve your energy. Everyone has their own strategy and you have to develop your own. Besides, players are allowed to take two byes from rounds 1-4. If my arithmetic serves me right, if I took two byes in a tournament, it is similar to agreeing to two draws or winning one and losing one in two games. Both gives me a total score of 1. Sometimes, you don't have to play all your games to win a tournament, instead play around the system. Sometimes, you can even get a favorable pairing by doing so. There are options available for every chess player and its up to you to take advantage of.

We are at 43 now with less than 2 weeks to go ( equally split in all 4 sections ) . All chess equipment will be provided. Our target is 80-120 players. With more players means more prize $$$.
As Toronto Labor day tournament is not likely going to be held this year, why dont you guys ( Torontonians ) come and join us as this tournament will be the last one before summer holiday ends.

As a parent, I vote to shorten the game a little if possible.
My son loves chess, but at the same time, I hope he has more time to relax and enjoy more outdoor activities. Some parents may have same thought like me.
I hope Chess organizers could consider this and find a balance to satisfy chess players from different age groups. I think Chess is a good mind-sport, but playing too much or too long may be not that good for health.
I enjoy having the Friday evening free. 3 games in one day is no trial for me, unless I'm sick. That said I do understand those who find three games tiring. But why not have 3, 2 and those who don't want to have 3 in one day can take a bye. As Ferdinand said bye's aren't the worst things ever, and can even work to your advantage sometimes.
