EMC last tournament of the year for 2018 is on Nov 24, 2018. It is a one day rapid and blitz tournament. This is to celebrate the formation of Oakville Chess Club.

Details on the link below :

Registrations has begun with about 10 players registered for both rapid and blitz tournament. Pre-registered list will be out in the next 1-2 weeks.

Open section will be both CFC and FIDE rated while the others CFC rated.

We are expecting about 70-100 players for this tournament

Prize funds expected to be $ 2,000 and above.

If we have a good crowd for above 2000 rated players, we may open up another section which is U2000 section and with that 4 sections. Having said that, we need registration to come in earlier than later.

If you have any questions, please email to info@elevatemychess.com

Registration is slowly coming in. List of the players should be up next week ( 10+)

      - Our TD - Egidijus Zeromskis from Aurora Chess Club.

      - Open section ( Rapid ) will be both FIDE and CFC rated. If you want to have a FIDE rapid rating, don't miss the opportunity as MOST rapid tournaments don't offer FIDE rated. This comes from a feedback from a parent who wants his kid to have a strong rapid FIDE rating in addition to his standard FIDE rating.

      - We are having this tournament in another Sandman Hotel and this time in Oakville. Very near 403 ( Burloak Dr ) There is a factory outlet near the hotel. Let your kids play while you shop ( for the chess parents ).

      - There is additional bonus for players who won both rapid and blitz sections.

      - Dateline for early bird - Sep 17, 2018 ( 3 weeks away ). Price goes up on Sep 18, 2018

      - Looking forward to more registration coming this week before we update the list.

      - Prize funds as follows :

      RAPID

      Rapid Chess Open Section: 1st $300; 2nd $200; 3rd $100

      Rapid Chess U1600 Section: 1st $250; 2nd $150; 3rd $50

      Rapid Chess U1000 Section: 1st $200; 2nd $100; 3rd $50

      BLITZ

      Blitz Challenge Open Section: 1st $100; 2nd $50; 3rd $35

      Blitz Challenge U1600 Section: 1st $70; 2nd $40; 3rd $30

      Blitz Challenge U1000 Section: 1st $50; 2nd $35; 3rd $25

COMBINED TOTAL PRIZES (Prizes for total points from the Rapid & Blitz Tournaments combined)

      Rapid & Blitz Total Open Section: 1st $60; 2nd $40; 3rd $20

      Rapid & Blitz Total U1600 Section: 1st $50; 2nd $30; 3rd $20

      Rapid & Blitz Total U1000 Section: 1st $40; 2nd $20; 3rd $10

Potentially for a player in the Open section, you stands to win $ 460 for a one day effort. The other sections prize fund are good as well.

      Cheers

        Sounds great.

To clarify, the 3 minute blitz is the traditional double rounds? One plays two games with each opponent, once as White, once as Black.

I hope to go, but depends on work. I had a lovely time in Oakville on Saturday, walking around downtown and visiting relatives. Easy to get to by Go train.

                  Hi Gary:

Do you allow any "Playing Up"? I see something on the flyer about this: "Upgrade: $ 10".

There seems to be no specified limit on playing up - so for example: A Player X is rated 500, and so should be in the bottom of the three sections (U 1000).

                  Questions:

                  1. Is there no rating floor below which you cannot play up one section? - often the organizer rule is that you must be within 100 pts. of the floor of the section into which you wish to play up. So here can Player X pay $ 10 and get to play in the U 1600 section?

                  2. Can Player X pay $ 20 to get to play in the Open Section (Playing Up 2 sections)?

                  Thanks.

                      Hi Bob,

It will be based on rapid/active rating and we allow playing up if you are within 100 points or if your std rating is in the correct sections.

Thanks for your registration and support

                      See you soon

Thanks Daniel for highlighting. Will fix it this weekend and make sure the webmaster is not sleeping at his work. :)

On another note, we have almost 30 players now.

                          Bumping up.

Bob Gillanders has sent the details for the Open section for both rapid and blitz tournament to be FIDE rated. Thanks Bob. If you want to have a FIDE rating for both rapid and blitz, this is your opportunity

We have about 30 players in the rapid section and 20 for blitz section.

Pre-registered list will be in our newsletter and website tomorrow

                          Cheers
