It is nice to finally be a FIDE Arbiter. However I would like to thank my mentors on the CFC side Doug Burgess, Les Bunning and Terry Fleming.

I miss Jerome Chyrulia and Mike Holmes who taught me more about running Ottawa tournaments than I will ever be able to tell in polite company. The RA Chess Club and the six weekend Ottawa weekend tournaments we run every year are very special in a small chess community.

Hear hear Halldor, you have deserved the title for a very long time. And well said about the Ottawa chess community (including the rest of the National Capital region). For those who don't know yet, not only does Halldor run all the Ottawa weekenders, but also very many of the RA Thursday night gatherings. Last night was another example, where the room is just packed with so many players (like myself) getting in a great long rated game. And as usual, it happens because Halldor takes care of everything, and I mean everything. Halldor's contributions have been so incredible, for so long, that the RA Chess Club membership has decided to declare Halldor as an honourary lifetime member. The look on everyone's faces as they applauded last night was a great moment.

Congrats Halldor! Those were the good old days when the fine persons you mention were running the show. I miss them, and the very "refreshing" postmortems that many of us used to enjoy in the "analysis room" after our Thursday night games.

Bravo Halldor! Your title is well-deserved, you are a pillar of the Ottawa chess community, a person with integrity and wisdom!

Congratulations Omar, your persistence and diligence are exemplary.

And of course we already celebrated Kenta on the French side :), but it's such a pleasure to say again, congratulations Kenta and Benoît!

Yes congratulations to all three. And congratulations to Halldor on an amazing longtime commitment. (small chess community? - I always viewed Ottawa as a big chess community)

You know, that's an interesting observation. The way I would reconcile it is that, compared to bigger places like Toronto-Montreal-Calgary-Vancouver, yes, Ottawa is a smaller chess community. However, Halldor has this wonderful way of getting EVERYONE to come out, which makes it seem like a bigger chess community. Really, what he's doing for Ottawa chess is quite remarkable.
