General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.

This is what worries me: him pressuring the state level people to NOT assign the electoral votes to Biden.
As far as I can tell, the practice of changing electoral college assignment is referred to as "faithless electors" (eh?)
Googling that phrase coughs up a lot of interesting reading...
If this happens to any serious degree (or at all) I would expect Biden and his crew will sue to overturn that... yada yada.
The U.S. election system is an amazing maze of stupid rules, regulations, precedents, laws (maybe)
and since it is managed at the State level it is guaranteed to be a gong show.
Seems that Trump has finally given the go ahead for the administration to cooperate with the transition team and even that unctuous woman who is head of the G.S.A. has also finally agreed to release funding for the transition team.
However, Trump vowed to continue to fight the results of the election - no surprise there - that will be written on his tombstone "they stole the election from me"
Good riddance.

It's all about collecting the money from the rubes. The money is so that Trump can think of himself as the "winner". It won't work, of course, though he'll get lots of money from the gulls. He will know deep down that he's a loser and it will act as a corrosive on his well being, making him even more bitter and angry. He is not only a loser he is a *bad* loser which makes him an even worse loser. Trump is the guy who, when you checkmate him right on the board, moves his K four squares and claims that *you* lost the game.
I want to congratulate all Biden supporters and Trump haters. I understand that there were 4 very tough years for you. Absolutely no sarcasm here. Now, it's time for Trump supporters to suffer.
Unlike many others, I don't expect Trump to make another run in 2024. I don't expect Biden to be there as well.
Back in Soviet history, Biden reminds me Chernenko, who was the last ruler of the USSR before Gorbachev. He was a ruler for the very short time, only about a year (1984-85). He was very old and did almost nothing. The last year of stagnation in USSR.

I would agree. Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Nevada have all certified Biden as the winner. Trump has lost all his legal battles. So unless Trump plans on parading tanks down Pennsylvania avenue, that's it. Biden wins whatever is left of America.
Victor, I was wondering if the bookmakers were taking any bets on 2024 yet. In particular, Ivanka vs. AOC.

Yes, they take. Usually, I don't like to make my bets for 4 years ahead and lock my money for such a long period.

Are there any posted odds for Mark Cuban as next POTUS? He has made some mention in the past about a Presidential run (for Democrats I believe). He would definitely be a long shot to even run, let alone win.

Peter, I think you know that there are some very decent people in the Republican party in the U.S. Each party has its own extremist supporters. That said, I have never seen a presidential candidate, let alone a sitting president, who has been so determined to appeal to the "nutbar" section of the party's political base as Trump. He has been/was the most divisive U.S. president that I have seen in my lifetime.

I think you are doing the woman a disservice here. She was in no-man's-land. Trump hadn't conceded, counts were still ongoing, lawsuits were flying everywhere. IMHO she wanted to find a way to make it happen and once Michigan and Pennsylvania certified their results she acted. Trump later tweeted that he authorized her to do so. Her letter to Biden says differently.
Peter, I think you know that there are some very decent people in the Republican party in the U.S. ....
Four years ago, maybe even three years ago, I would have said the same thing, Steve. Given the relatively tiny number of Republican members of Congress who had the courage and integrity to speak out publicly against Trump, and given the ~ 70 million Republicans who voted for him in 2020, I say there aren't enough decent people left in the Republican Party to worry about.

Paul Ryan is an interesting prospect. I've wondered if he ducked out when he did because his political and human instincts told him he could limit the Trump "stink" on himself and keep alive his presidential hopes for the future.

Oh wow, it was almost a rhetorical question, but I guess you can place a bet on anything!!
I see Harris and/or Biden are the favourites for 2024. Not too surprising, but........
I would suggest you place a bet on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) at 19 to 1. The progressives in the Democratic party did well this election, increasing their numbers and all incumbants being re-elected. Their platform and leader, Bernie Sanders, are very popular. Her odds are sure to drop before 2024. So even if she doesn't win, you should be able to cover your position with insurance bets.
