I don't think Nepomnyashci's result reflects his true superiority over the field, he has played steady chess, but in many of his wins his opponents played well below their usual level.

I think Ding's series of wins toward the end has impressed me the most. If he had converted a few of the positions he got earlier in the event, he would be right in the hunt.

This may be true, but it used to be interesting how so many of Tiger Woods' opponents never seemed at their best when paired with him, how many of Mike Tyson's opponents seemed to have a bad night... and so on. Nepo must be very intimidating right now, he exudes power, this guy is for real and his opponents live in fear of him.

Yes! That all important psych. His opponents feel like they have a tiger by the tail and they're uncertain how best to proceed. Sometimes the psych can lead to excuse-making after the opponent loses. Was it Susan Polgar who once said, "I've never beaten a healthy male opponent"?
