Thats why I try to listen to commentary. I just found out Boris Gelfand has been training Christopher Yoo. No wonder the kid is going places.

Rd 5 Jennifer Yu wins a tense game against Sabina Foisor and is in clear first with 4 out of 5. Irina Krush, Tatev Abrahamyan, and Alice Lee are a half point back.

Rd 6 Fabiano Caruana won again to increase his lead to one point at 4.5 (or plus 3).

Ray Robson beat Hans Niemann to move into a tie for second. Niemann now has two losses.
Another player on the verge of collapse is Levon Aronian who suffered his second loss and has not won a game.

Rd 7 A very nice win by Ray Robson over Wesley So which ends in zugzwang puts Ray alone in second place with 4.5/ 7 one point back of Fabiano Caruana who continues to win.
Ray's efforts put him over 2700 for the first time even though he has been hovering in the 2680-2690 range for more than 5 years now.

Megan Lee upset Jennifer Yu and is tied with Irina Krush for the lead in the womens. The Lee's (Megan and Alice - not related) have provided most of the upsets in the womens and have made the tournament very interesting.

Is Hans Niemann collapsing? He's lost two in a row and it doesnt look good.

Leinier Dominguez won his first game in the opening after 10 moves. Quite sensational but you've got to know your openings.

Jeffery Xiong has seven draws out of seven games - unusual for him that he hasnt won yet - but what a tough tournament!

A problem with good online commentary is the public exposure of the ideas behind opening gambits. Levon Aronian decided to play the Fried Liver Attack against Hans Niemann with encouragement from Cristian Chirilla. Now all the ideas behind it are being shown in depth. Oh well it served me well for at least thirty years. Time to put it to rest. I however am really enjoying the game so far.

Rd 8 Jeffery Xiong wins his game and thats big!
In his interview he said he cant do anything about Fabiano Caruana and Ray Robson (they are both on a roll) but he can keep an eye on third place.
