I would have played that sacrifice on f3, it just smells right. I think however I would have played 24....Nc4 and taken the white bishop on b2. Then the queen and knight would have had a free hand on the white kingside.
Calugar is a tough as nails calculator and a good defender.

Round 4 - either chess-results is wrong, or the labelling of the DGT boards is wrong. Yang-Sambuev and Chilu-Ratte - Dukic on chess-results; Chiku-Ratte - Sambuev and Yang-Dukic on the DGT boards. I think chess-results is correct.

Maybe they will agree to a draw and then have a contest to see who tells the best stories.

Rd 5 Interesting game this morning Ian Findlay - Aaron Mendes. Seems the wily veteran has cooked up an interesting exchange sacrifice.

Rd 5 On two adjacent DGT boards players sacrificed their queens for two minor pieces. Must be something in the water. Or extra inspiration trying to win.

A stalemate try on board one artfully rejected.

Wow, 'crazy rook' sac in Sambuev Calugar. I'm not super sure it would work, I had no time to calculate before Sambuev declined, and Calugar resigned after the next move.
