Diagram in 45 is Lee-Pourkashiyan. The previous move Alice Lee played Rc8 exchanging rooks. I shouted:"No,no, dont exchange rooks -its bishops of opposite colours!" (I was watching) but Alice had seen the end result - at least 10 moves deep! In the diagram she played Kd3! - zugzwang!

Diagram in 47 The heart of Robson's killer combination Ne4+ in rd 5 (Robson Xiong, of course he had already played several moves to set it up) If dxe4, Rf5+ Bxf5,Qc3+ and mates in at most 3 moves. There are checkmates looming everywhere. Until Ne4+ it wasnt clear. Beautiful!

Just an illustration of how complex this combination was. Look at the diagram position again. What if Black plays...Kd4 what does White do? Hint: Its very tricky and involves intense calculation

Diagram in 49 - just after Caruana played the brilliant 24...Na4! paralysing! (from Tang-Caruana rd 5) There is nothing better than 25.h4 Bg7 26.0-0 Nc3 27.Bd1 a5 as played and now White resigned 0-1

Rd 6 All 6 games were drawn, only Dominguez had decent winning chances. His opponent Mishra got a fortunate break.

At the half Caruana leads at +3 and surprisingly Hans Niemann is only a half point behind. Mishra due to his fantastic start has an equal score - still excellent in this superstrong field.

At the half its a two horse race with Yip and Tokhirjonova at +4 (5 out of 6) Alice Lee after a devastating start has won three in a row and looks good at +1.

Rd 7 Pairings Robson vs Caruana, Hans Niemann has an easier time of it playing Tang.

This will be an exciting finish, it might be close to the. Fabi has Hans on his tail, and lot of players at 3 pts. Lenier has a hard time converting against good opposition, he often has big advantages that he does not carry through. That's chess we are not computers.

Carissa Yip won a wild Sicilian and Tokhirjonova also won so they are running away with the tournament, both with 6 out of 7.
