Rd 5 Irina Krush is playing her old friend Anna Zatonskih. Zatonskih is adding a little spice to the encounter by playing the Tarrasch.
Abrahamyan is white against Yip's Kings Indian Defence.

Mishra missed 21...Bxa3 22.Bxa3 Re8. Unforgiveable at this level. Key tactics. Now he is just struggling and is probably lost.
      Wesley So's technique - ruthless!

Robson has been playing exciting attacking chess. He has been losing against incredible defence and also missing opportunities to follow up. In todays game against Xiong he has sacked a rook but has good compensation with his opponents king in the center. Always entertaining for fans like me.
Fascinating to watch a grandmaster tactician at work! - Robson!

Dominguez-Shankland - there are five passed pawns on the board! Are there swindling chances for Black?

Its been whittled down to three passed pawns but still very exciting!

Hans Niemann beats Levon Aronian and is in second only half a point back of Caruana.

Alice Lee wins her second in a row - a lovely endgame - a rare case where bishop of opposite colors wins.

https://www.chess.com/news/view/2023...pionship-day-5 There's a really cute picture of Alice Lee (scroll down a lot - and yes, she is really as young as she looks but a fine mind) and of course analysis of the best games of round 5.
