Rd 9 Some interesting opening choices in round 9. Ju Wenjun issued what I call the Fried Liver against Pragga. The position has taken on a "modern" feel with queenside castles for White. I'll keep that in mind if I ever play it again.

Rd 9 Warmerdam has played the old attacking line of the Tarrasch against Maghsoodloo. He seems to have good chances.

Rd 9 In Beukema - Korobov something has gone wrong for White. Beukema's play smacks of desperation.

                    • Rd 9 Roebers has played a King's Gambit. Why not? But her opponent seems to know what he is doing as black.

                      • Maurizzi as white is playing an opening I teach my beginning students to learn strategy. Its nice to see it played by the leader in one of the best tournaments in the world.

                        • Rd 9 Entertaining game by Pragga. Ju Wenjun unwisely decided to play actively skirmishing across the board. Pragga used open lines to aim for the black king and was successful.

                            • Wei pulls off a masterpiece! WoW! It starts with the knight on c4 but how does it get in? 25.Re7! Then the king goes for a stroll all the way to f6 and the position is simply dominating!
