Rd 8 Impressed with GM Van Foreest's endgame skill. He basically entered the endgame at move 22 and the position was equal. Then he steadily outplayed his opponent engineering a kingside pawn breakthrough.Comment

Rd 8 Upset of the round has to be CM Yang vs GM Sambuev. They are still playing but Yang handlled Sambuev's kingside pawn onslaught well and initiated nice tactics to end up two pawns and a rook against a lone rook. All GM Sambuev can do is suffer. Rd 8 IM Lawson has done well to have theoretically drawn rook and pawn endgame a pawn down with all pawns on the same side against GM Mikhalevsky.Comment

Rd 8 GM Fedorowicz went down in flames against GM Kantans. 24.Nf4 allowed a nice counterattacking combo of 24...Bg4 and the rook sacrifice Rxc2 opening White's king position.Comment
