Irina Krush vs Jeenifer Yu was a spectacle. Ferocious attacks on both sides, both sides defending ferociously. It then transposed into a crazy bishop of ops endgame which Yu won.

Zatonskih beat the co leader Pailidze which left Sargsyan all alone in first after winning her game against Paragua.

Cervantes sacked several pawns and a bishop to win a rook and gave Abrahamyan a stellar position which she converted easily.

Out of the six games in the women's section, 5 were endgames which I enjoyed heartily.

All the games of round 5 will be interesting but I'll be focused on So vs Aronian.

Which started out as an interesting Four Knights but fizzled out to a draw.

Rd 5 Nice upset by Woodward over Sevian. A game featuring queen offers, bold moves by kamikaze knights and a shredding of the white squares.

Rd 5 Up a pawn Liang trades all his pawns for a knight to head fpr the classic rook and bishop vs rook ending which he will probably draw.

Carissa Yip beat Sarsyan and Alice Lee found stunning tactics to beat Paikidze and take advantage of the situation to move into a tie for first. Interestingly this was Carissa's first win in the tournament. (in rd 5!)

The normally solid Irina Krush with lots of draws has only goose eggs and sticks in this tournament!

Rd 5 Caruana and Niemann pull off great wins. Niemann's opponent Mishra (the great defender) played on and on only to get pulverised and checkmated with a pawn. What a way to end an unbeaten streak.
