  • Help Wanted With FRITZ 18 Software

I don'y use FRITZ 18 other than the occasional position setup to solve a problem.
I just purchased HHdbVII which is a DataBase of well over 100,000 studies.
I have downloaded this DB but have no idea how to get FRITZ to show it to me.
Somewhere I can copy this DB into FRITZ (I think!) and then have access to the studies. How to get FRITZ to show it to me, I have no idea.
Can anyone help me with that?
    Thanks,
    Ken

The endgame database is the same as a game database, with each problem a pgn file. The database file should end in "cbh" or "cbv". If you were sent a zip file, it needs to be unzipped.

Save the problem database in the same folder where you save your game databases.

    Open your chess program.

    Click on something like
    File --- Database
    and again
    File --- Database

      Have you figured out?

Its website ( https://www.hhdbvii.nl/detailed-information/ ) has a PDF file a lot of information how to use it.

Seems you're getting a zip file " A zip-file is a compressed file which holds a single PGN-file that is a standard format for most chess software."
Windows should have no problem unzipping it. Then Fritz can open it, though you need to select PGN file types to see the file.

It took Eric many emails but he finally solved my problem. It often surprises me how simple some things really are in the end! Now I have to learn how FRITZ works with my EG DB!

Ken, if you have a moment - can you elaborate on what steps had to be taken?

First, I couldn't even ID the folder where DBs should be accessed. Eric told me how to see the path. So, I unpacked the EG DB into that folder.
On attempting to open a DB, mine specifically, it wouldn't show the *.pgn DB for the studies. It did show the ChessBase *.cbh DB in the BASES folder, but not my *.pgn DB.
When Eric sent me one of his personal *.pgn DBs, I saved it to the BASES folder. Suddenly, my *.pgn EG DB showed also.
Obviously, Eric's DB triggered something I was too simple to see!
Not much help for you, alas!
