Rd 7 Woodward has the endgame players dream. Two passed rook pawns. A central knight outpost vs an inferior bishop. The computer confirms this with an eval of -1.50.Its move 50.

Rd 7 Erdogmus played remarkably well until, unprovoked, he traded the bishop for the knight and after that Magnus put on a classic endgame disp[ay.
        Magnus wins.

Good fortune smiles on Magnus. At the same time Andy Woodward , who had several opportunities to win, managed to mishandle the endgame and let Erigaisi escape with a draw.

Net result: There is a playoff between Magnus and Erigaisi for first.

Maximum fan benefit - not just a great tournament but also a tense playoff. Couldn't have been better planned by the organisers.

Magnus wins the first playoff game with his usual positional flair and a nice endgame thereafter.

Magnus redeems himself in the third playoff game with a nice knight and queen routine and discovery winning the queen and the game.

Erdogmus played great chess throughout the tournament and only suffered one loss to Magnus in the last round, and that only because of a mistake on move 50! What a fantastic young talent!! He finished in a tie for third with Abdusattarov. His live rating is 2713, good for 29th in the world.

Abdusattarov got to play Magnus (the reason he entered the tournament) and after a tense draw he seemed to lose motivation.

Jorden Van Foreest finished 5th with 3.5 and an equal score but a big scalp against Magnus, an amazing game.
