General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
This fetish you have about categorizing perfectly acceptable words as weasel words, it was amusing at first, but now it is just becoming annoying.
If you don't understand the meaning of a word, try looking it up in your dictionary. :p
I know the meaning of the words. I can read an article and pick the parts which are likely lies or where the author is "winging it" for lack of expertise.
So tell us, Bob, how much pollution is caused when the CFC "burns money"?
Let's be clear here. You either have a PH. D in Physics or you don't. Which is it?
It is quite clear to me. Paul does not claim to have a PH D in Physics, but he has completed all the required courses. Presumably what is left to complete is the final exam and/or a thesis. Whatever, he has been quite clear on his educational background.:D

I love that. Sometime I crack myself up. :):)
How can you pick the parts which are likely lies or "winging it" for lack of expertise. What is your area of training and expertise and education to substantiate this statement?

Gary, can you read a financial report.
The CFC has been in a surplus position for more than a year now! :D
I will be perfectly clear. I have a Master of Science in Physics. I do NOT have a Ph. D.; however I completed all the graduate courses to meet the requirement but I did not do the thesis.
I started formal study of climate change at the M. Sc. level in Jan/2010. However I have studied it informally for years.
You don't have a PH.D in physics. You have no degree in climate change. Only informal study. Yet you want ME to pay megabucks to support something on which you personally don't appear to be qualified to make expert pronouncements. Unless these days any student expects to be taken seriously.
Would you explain to Super Bob what a PH.D in physics is worth without completing the thesis or obtaining the degree? I'm losing patience with the lad. :)
As I said before I have a degree in Physics. In case you did not know this field of study is a big part of understanding climate, meteorology, and modelling.
I do not want you to pay anything or do anything. How you think I expect you to pay anything or do anything is fantasy on your part; I just like to counter your claims when they are ridiculous.
Just let the readers of this site know what your background is in the subjects you claim to have expertise in so that they can judge for themselves.
Careful Bob. When he gets upset he will run to Larry and ask him to close the thread. Or he will become Kevin Spraggetts new best friend...
You're such a Yenta and all because I won't buy into your schtick.
It might interest you to know I am on good terms with Kevin. He's the best chess player Canada has ever produced, as far as I know. His excellence of play and longevity in the game have to be admired.
I'm surprised a smart fellow like yourself would have to ask a question like that and more surprised you expect a reply.
I do not expect any reply from you whatsoever.:) These questions are for the benefit of other readers. I just want every person on this site to know where all parties in these discussions are coming from; and what expertise they may/may not have.:)

How come when I start writing nuclear, SWU's, etc. you don't jump right in? I'd have thought you'd be full of knowledge on gaseous diffusion and centrifuge technology.
Don't they learn you that in Physicals these days, or did you miss that class? :D
I have studied nuclear physics and I did some lab work in the McMaster reactor years ago. I also did bifuelling simulation studies on CANDU reactors for Ontario Hyrdro one summer; lots of FORTRAN coding...I am not looking for more topics to debate with you; I do like seeing your financial/stock posts...
Vlad is amazingly dense. Moving to substitues cannot last forever unless there is either a substitute that will not run out, or an infinite number of substitutes. Neither can be true on a finite planet.
Now, to show how hoplessly out of touch he is, he stoops the the ultimate low, pointing out spelling errors.
No, I think it's clear that Vlad rejects arithmetic.
