General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
Recall that I posted here about how food shortages exacerbated by climate change is getting to be an urgent problem (and of course Garry and Vlad tried to downplay this). Here is a link with more information on the food shortage problem, and be sure to read the link in this article to the New York times article (it is excellent).
Harper deserves to be blamed for climate change, as well as the many other legitimate things.
Bob
Well from your wording it could be interpreted that you agree with me that climate change (anthropogenic anyways) is illegitimate but I don't think that is what you meant to say.
Harper won the election. Those who dislike him need to study Kubler Ross's stages of grief and reach the final stage as quickly as possible which is acceptance. The stages are: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance.
I am getting very close to getting annoyed enough about the misinformation out there on the Green Energy plan to get involved. Locally there is a ridiculous amount of frankly idiotic commentary on the issue that refutes itself for anyone who can read between the lines and do simple math. They promise Green jobs that cost on the order of one million dollars a job based on their rosiest predictions. In point of fact, many more high paying union jobs will be killed by the high electicity costs that are a necessary by-product of these programs. Also they have consistently overstated the job creation benefits in every instance where they have been checked against reality. Does it make sense for the ratepayers and electricity consumers to pay tens of billions of dollars so Windsor can have a few hundred more jobs. I don't think so. I don't even think that the few hundred extra jobs will materialize.
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
Ironically, the king of misinformation is Vlad himself. Green energy jobs for Ontario and Canada is the way forward.
Today I and a bunch of others saw Tim Hudak walking into the Chateau Laurier before his big speech to the Canadian Club in downtown Ottawa. We told him that his plan made no sense, why would he want to take Canada backwards? He looked like a clown wearing his dark suit with todays humidex.
Also said hi to Justin Trudeau as he walked by. Spoke with reporters from the Toronto Star, Ottawa Sun, CBC, and CTV.
That's a rare sighting. A Liberal MP from Quebec. I thought most Quebec MP's are NPDers from Ontario.
Why would all those news outlets want to talk with you? Were you a greeter? :)
Maybe they were asking about the Sierra Club looking like a bunch of,... well,... what they are, over losing massively in their lawsuit against the new bridge.
I got this new app on my iPhone called LeafSpot. You take a photo of a tree leaf and it identifies the tree and gives all kinds of information on the species (using a Smithsonian database). It also uploads the GPS coordinates of the photo to their database for future study/analysis.
If I took a picture of Gary it would probably spit out knarly, withered old stump...
If I took a picture of Vlad it would likely say thorn, cactus, or poison ivy...
In another 4 months Hudak will be Premier. Maybe he'll be better for seniors. Less taxes and more affordable utility bills.
Did you look at the spelling in the copy you linked?
Did you have to pay HST for your app? Registering a leaf's coordinates on GPS is something which wouldn't enter most folks mind.
I think Dalton has worn out his welcome. His Sooper Secret deal with the public service unions was an interesting development. I like the line about Dalton being like a racoon.
In another 16 months, I think that Obama's administration will be effectively neutered whether he retains the White House or not (history suggests he won't but I think it depends on who the Republicans nominate). The environmental crazies will be relegated to the fringes of power everywere. The fringe is where they belong and we can get back to the news that really matters like why Weiner should resign. I never could figure out why guys with hot wives have to do such stupid things with women who look rather dull in comparison to their spouses.
Re: THE NEW One and Only Climate Change Whatever...
Are green energy jobs the way forward when they cost one or two million dollars a job without even counting the cost of paying 27 times the going rate of wholesale electricity for the next 20 years? You would have got an F in the finance class I taught for answering yes to that question.
You could pay the recipients of those jobs twice their salaries on the interest from the cost of financing that expenditure.
It is really a bit of a task to educate people in the face of so much media misinformation and lies. My nephew watched his teacher's head explode when faced with watching Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth" for the umpteenth time he suggested in front of his classmates that he was pretty sure that it was all wrong about pretty much everything. It only takes one dissenting voice and eventually the truth will prevail.

I often vote liberal. I didn't much like the last Conservative government and helped to vote them out. Now it's at the point where Dalton is costing too much. I'll try to help to vote him out. When Dalton wins there seems to be a surprise tax. First mandate was a health tax. This mandate was the HST. Then the money seems to get spent on things which don't make sense to me.
American presidents normally get two terms. As a result the opposition candidate in the second term is usually not the party star. The best candidate tends to wait for the end of the second term to take his try.
Clinton knocked off Bush Sr. Some of the top democrats, whose names I forget and likely do most people, didn't contest the nomination. Anyhow, Clinton got two terms. Jimmy Carter was also a one term president, but that was probably predictable.
Regarding guys and hot wives you'll have to listen to this as I can't answer the question.
