How did Christopher Pace win the tournament in Arnprior last week? What happened after that bishop move forking the king and rook with Pace having a few seconds on the clock and Hartman having half an hour? Is the game available somewhere?

    Re: Arnprior

    Pace - Hartman was 0-1.

Hartman was paid the prize money for first place on the spot.

      Re: Bishop fork

      Hello Claude:

      Chris resigned after that move.
I billeted Chris last weekend and will see if he'll give me the PGN.
I am sure he will, although he was disappointed he lost the game after having an early winning position.

        Re: Arnprior

Hello! I don't have the notorious scoresheet, but provide the following:

        Arnprior 2011 Round 2
        Hartman-Doubleday

        1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cd 4.Nd4 Qb6 5.Nb3 Nf6 6.Nc3 e6 7.Bd3 d6 8.0-0 Be7 9.Kh1 0-0 10.f4 Rd8 11.Qf3 d5 12.e5 Nd7 13.a3 Nf8 14.Qg3 a6 15.Bd2 Qc7 16.Rae1 f5 17.Ne2 d4 18.Qf2 Qd7 19.h3 b6 20.Kh2 Bb7 21.g4 g6 22.Ng1 Qd5 23.Qf3 Qd7 24.Qg3 Kh8 25.Nf3 Qd5 26.Rf2 Bc5 27.Qh4 Qd7 28.Bc4 Ne7 29.Nc5 bc 30.Ng5 Nd5 31.gf gf 32.Rg1 Re8 33.Qh5 Re7 34.Rfg2 Ng6 35. Nh7 Ndf4 36.Bf4 nf4 37.Rg8+ Rg8 38.Rg8+ Kg8 39.Nf6+ Kg7 40.Qh7+ 1-0

Given that Mr. Doubleday is the rating auditor, perhaps he adjudicated my Pace game versus accepting its result :)

I did sacrifice a pawn unsoundly in the opening, then made steady progress thereafter; however, certainly computer programs would have hated my position

However, the real story at Arnprior was that Herb Langer, the esteemed organizer and tournament director is hanging up his tournament organizing/directing after 30 years! Herb intends to instead play in the next annual Arnprior event, presumably run by another. Myself, and no doubt everyone else who has played in one of Herb's events (including in the past such luminaries as GM Kevin Spraggett), will miss his patient direction. Thanks Herb!
