Canadian chess players support the CFC which gives them ratings.
The CFC supports FIDE which gives Canadian chess players titles -GMs,
IMs and now FMs (for a fee). What next FIDE A Class titles? -everyone's dream to be a FA .... ah sweet FA..... (for a fee).
FIDE supports their president who gives them money.
FIDE president supports Quadaffi the mass murderer.
So, Canadian chess players support Quadaffi.

So where do you break the chain?:(

Break the chain by firing the FIDE president.

Canadian chess players cannot fire the FIDE president - we can only withdraw from FIDE. If I was CFC president, that's what I would do - then you could impeach me:) for not consulting the governors.

                So true!

By the way, that's an old friendship - see Paul Hoffman's "King's Gambit" - Chapter 9 : Gadhafi’s Gambit and Mr. Paul

We should have debated withdrawing from FIDE long ago.

However, nothing would stop FIDE from recognizing another Canadian group if we did withdraw.

What's to debate? Either we want our zone and we want our players to compete for international titles or we don't.

Russia has more or less been the main chess power since I was a kid. All during the cold war. This we could stomach. Now do you figure it's time to wrap ourselves in virtue and disown the entire kit and kaboodle?

I still haven't figured out if Botvinnik won the world title or if his opponents lost it out of fear.

                      Right !

This would be the end of the CFC. We could become a grassroots organization and have to live off the Chess foundation interest

More black and white thinking from chessplayers. Stay in FIDE or leave. Black and white thinking is a cognitive distortion, that is why chessplayers are messed up so much in the head (until they back off a little from the game). How about the CFC stays in FIDE (obviously benefits outway drawbacks by huge margin) and the CFC goes on record with disapproval of the FIDE presidents actions?

                            Hi Fred:

The Cooperative Chess Coalition ( CCC ) isn't sure there's enough to go around for two grassroot's organizations! Hmmm - would CCC be able to fill the vaccuum? - CCC as FIDE affiliate - hmmmmmmm - has a nice ring about it!LOL
