Well, I'm hoping someone else can point these out so I can watch just the best games from the Open.

I also prefer selected games rather than complete tournament books, so you should wait for the CFC magazine.

I considered putting up a poll for most entertaining game of each round but then I would have to select 10 games and people have different criteria. Certainly, the top boards are interesting battles, as are opening innos and battles in the latest master lines. I can appreciate endgame technique, but it’s not as interesting. I tend to just look at people I know games. Others might want to check out rating upsets. If I’m using a database program, I may just look up certain openings. I find having the computer evaluation running affects my assessment of the game.

    My choices:

    Round 1
    Lacau-Rodean 0–1 Arencibia
    Samsonkin 1–0 Inigo
    Thavandiran 1–0 Preotu

    Round 2
    Benjamin 1/2– ½ Humphreys
    Day 0-1 Rozentalis
    Arencibia 1–0 Gulati
    Cheng 1–0 Sohal
    Derraugh 1–0 Calugar
    Grecu 1–0 Orlova
    Nicholson 10- Castle

Can anyone explain to me why W did not play 26.Rxc3? I am not good enough to understand that! There has to be something because 2 masters would not miss it.

          26. Rxc3 looks good to me. And my computer.

I dont know about Rds 1 to 3 but in Rd4 I particularly enjoyed Golod-Milicevic.
I think Goran Milicevic deserves a Canadian fan club for the way he plays when he plays inspired chess! (although Goran was making the hole at g7 a little too much bait? - I love the idea tho and I think Black was winning at some point but I didnt Fritzify it). Goran, Im sorry for your loss you deserve better. Actually I think there should be a special fund set up to reward players when they play an especially inspired game of chess. There should be a committee of chess beauty enthusiasts who decide on candidate games. Somehow there should be a reward for taking exceptional risks (and maybe even an archive of truly amazing Canadian chessgames).

It’s great to have some pics by masters like Jonathan and Hans. Maybe they should be judges for game prizes.

              Patzer’s picks for Round 3
              Hambelton 0-1 Perelshteyn
              Renteria 0-1 Benjamin
              Fedorowicz 1/2-1/2 Yee
              Patterson 0-1 Zenyuk
              Frilles 1-0 Razzaq
              Orlova 1-0 Pieri

              Patzer’s picks for Round 4
              Perelshteyn 1-0 Bluvshtein
              Puri 0-1 Krush
              Golod 1-0 Milicevic
              Larochelle 1/2-1/2 Fedorowicz
              Macak 1-0 Ang
              Manola 0-1 Preotu

An advantage of this year's downstairs hall is that it isn't crowded at the entrance and there's a large lobby to hang around in. I'm getting involved in social conversations that I missed having last year, and especially enjoyed a visit by Angela Day, who used to be an Olympiad team member, major Toronto tournament director, and worked for the Grandmasters' Assn in Brussels.
