Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Looking at your advertised prize funds, let's say, the actual number of players*
showed up is 41 which is above the minimum of 40, my understanding is that your advertised prize funds should already be unconditionally guaranteed since it already met your minimum of 40 players. But, if you compute your total prize fund for all the sections, that's already $2,200. Without discounts for 41 regular players of your entry of $50, that totals only $2050. You already have a $150 deficit or even more if you apply discounts. Who are going to cover up for your deficits, rentals and other fees? I guess, you must have some typo in your prize funds advertisement based on minimum of 40 players unless you have sponsors to cover these expenses for you. I highly recommend to factor all your tournament expenses before coming up with the minimum poll of players requirements and advertising very attractive prize funds to avoid risk of losing your money. With a pre-registered player of over 60. You should be safe though i guess if everyone shows up.

Thank you for your concern. To the best of my understanding, there are no typos in the announcement. The guarantees are very generous and that is why there may not be top-up with, say, 45 players. But there is likely to be top-up with 100 players.
Anyway, my replacement was kind enough and reported back his achievements - 3/5 in the kids' field :D

First, I want to thank everyone for attending. It was a great tournament. Thanks also to the committee of Ralph Deline, Mario Piccinin, Tim Knechtel and Tom McClelland.
I am out of town until Thursday. I believe that the crosstable will be online by then.

World class chess player against world class martial artist ... hmm ... and it looks like Bator survived since he beat me in the second round. And you say chess is boring :).
GM Bator Sambuev dominated with 5/5. Those that were lucky enough to be paired with him (or around him) got free lessons or at least tips.:) I think there was a three way tie for second (open section) but Im not sure about names. In the under 2000 two local stars Mahmud Hassain and Shawn Phillips played a careful draw in the last round to tie for first with sometimes local Stuart Brammall (tho previously from Toronto). Sorry I dont know about the under 1700 section. I'll try to find out more at the club tonight.
Well the story on that John is that we have a new organization team and they still have quite the learning curve:) We will have a meeting tonight at the club to discuss pluses and minuses - feel free to contribute here on your perceptions over the next few hours and I will bring them to the organizers. We have a new promotions guy and its largely thanks to him (by using chesstalk!!) that we were able to draw 77 players (a great turnout!) but unfortunately he didnt finish well (results and report need to be posted on chesstalk). I would have posted more but I wasnt aware of everything that went on. (too busy playing)
Stir the pot enough and sometimes you get action. As I previously posted GM Sambuev 1st 5/5 correction on 2nd from previous post (in open section) 4 way tie for 2nd, Razvan Preotu, Michael Song, IM Arthur Calugar, David Itkin and half point behind -- my usual story:( Veteran Yura Ochkoos showed up after an absence of 3 years to contribute to the CFC - and also because I was playing:D (according to him) It felt like old times. Under 2000 was already mentioned but a three way tie between Mahmud, Shawn Phillips, and Stuart Brammall took all the prizes. Under 1700 1st was Dave Bendl and 2nd a tie between Joey Orozco and Joey Zhong. I'll try to get somebody else to post some highlights.
