      Hi Egis,

I know, I figured that I'd change that after a day, as the tournament
falls on the cusp of 2012-13, and I'd get a bright soul remarking that
the tournament ends in 2012, so how come it's the 2013 CJCC:-)

Hope you'll be there to take pix, video (I've got camps to run:-).

Rene has requested a projector onstage (not too much space!), we
will have demo boards set up (volunteers needed, folks do sign-up!),
      I can set up a webcam/live video-feed, with 15 min. delay streaming
to the net (for obvious reasons:-), what else can you suggest?

      Thanks!
      Francis

I assume the year goes with the World JCC. CJCC is a part of that :D

The bughouse corner for visitors LOL
You may bring camp kids to show how big guys play.

With a couple of days of single rounds 2 masters could have been easily to make it a 12 player event.

Wonderful webpage. Beautiful photos and captions.

          Improvements for the webpage:

typos: Round 8 should be at 16:00, in bio Kleinman not Kleinmann

Place the link to monroi live results (and results) near the top, perhaps beneath the photos.

The crosstable could have columns for age, FIDE rating, FIDE title, city.

Under Organizer I would add links to Chess'n Math [NOT Chess 'N Math] and Strategy Games. Great that Chess'n Math page links to this event.

          Could add Venue link: www.britonhouse.com

Text nicely spaced vertically, but could limit width to half the page. I find the small and gray text hard to read. Nicer to be black and a little larger. Don't need colons : with bold titles.

I found it interesting listing coaches in bios. Ages of Qin? Kleinman? Song?

Could have photos repeated with bios and links to their CFC and FIDE webpages.

Event mentions a couple of past winners. Also would be nice link to last year's tournament and/or list of past Canadian Junior Championships:

          http://members.shaw.ca/berry5868/jun.htm#canjun

Nice mentioning restaurants - any sponsors? e.g. 10% discount if mention chess. Could have link to a map.

What happens to the Venue Parking after 6 pm? Doors close? Free?

Is there not an email address to contact an organizer? Press contact?

Could repeat top links as a bottom line.

Needs a white border/empty space along the sides and bottom.

It would be nice if any players have a blog or share on chesstalk. It looks like a great event.

I hope to drop by on my day off, Friday.

Re: 2012-2013 Canadian Junior Chess Championships

            Thanks much, Erik!

Will incorporate, as soon as I have a min....just
setting up the tournament hall (it's quite warm in
there!), making it as plush as possible, 'midst all
the Christmas cheer, getting woozy from the bubbly:-)

And, I have to drive....to pick up arriving contestants,
have to watch out for RIDE folks out on Christmas:-)

P.S. I've only mentioned a tiny fraction of the restaurants,
the street has tons, even directly opposite, establishments
like Culinarium, or Flaky Tart do exquisite finger-food like
mince-pies, fruit-pies, butter scones, even whimsical cakes!

            :-)

Unless I am mistaken, coaches were only listed for two of the players?

You might be mistaken:-), I thought I mentioned three,
(O'Donnell, Egorov, besides Richard's three), but I'll update
as soon as I'm back tonite, or perhaps tomorrow morning:-)

Some players are quite reticent (read secretive!), about their
coaches, but I was quite stunned to find out that almost every
top young player (including IM's) in this country has one or more
online GM coaches! I'm sure a lot of folks would like to know who
are Eric Hansen's coaches, given his sensational 2012 performance,
but give the kid credit - you can have the best coaches in the world,
but ultimately, it's your innate talent that takes you to the top!
(I think there was a pic of one of his coaches at Isthmia?)

Keep up the hard work Francis!

Seems like it will be a phenomenal tournament! I'll have to get my one year old son to start playing chess soon... :)

The wife will soon be a "chess mom" ;)

I haven't had any coaching for a couple of years but I do try to have sparring/training partners. Too expensive to afford the top coaches

Well, that's a pretty honest, and brutal, comment on the value of some "coaches"!

I address this not to Eric Hansen specifically (although his input would be appreciated!), but to all CT'ers.

I am curious. Generally, what do top coaches charge for on-line coaching?

How many hours would it take for a serious, high rated player, to benefit from this top line coaching?

Wow Francis, thanks for incorporating my ideas into your page.

An interesting thing about linking to their FIDE pages is it gives their national ranking by age. Nobody has their photo on their FIDE page. Somebody needs to forward portrait photos to the CFC to forward to FIDE.

In terms of eating, it's the best tournament location in Toronto! In addition to Mount Pleasant, there's Eglinton to Yonge such as Demetre Caffe milkshakes or all you can eat at Spring Rolls. I like Penrose Fish & Chips, but my favourite in the area is on Yonge (west side, 2 blocks south) Italian food at Five Doors North.

For entertainment, the Mount Pleasant cinema is showing Anna Karenina and Flight, while the Regent is showing Midnight's Children and Searching for Sugarman. There's also 2 multi-movie theatres at Yonge and Eglinton. Just north of the hotel where the players are staying is Northern SS where in the upcoming remake of Carrie the people come out of the burning school.

I don't coach any of those players, though I did coach two from beginner up until they got to roughly 2250. I don't normally teach anyone after they are solid Master strength.

Last time I heard, Joey was being coached by GM Sambuev. Not sure if it's still the case, though.
