General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Ok, there's more than one thing to respond to here.
First, I had not heard the phrase 'fear porn" before. Interesting, but also kind of inflammatory. I mean, just call it fake news if that's what you think it is. As they say on The Simpsons, "don't have a cow, man!"
Second, I wasn't making any points about sea levels. So yeah, the ice sheets around Antarctica that break off and melt, that isn't going to increase sea level, because the ice was sitting in the water already. What's been happening very recently is the melting of the ice sheets that lie on top of LAND -- specifically, Greenland. That is a new and very recent event, and so that could very well increase sea level. But i repeat, I was not saying anything about sea level.
My point was about CO2 (carbon dioxide) in the atmosphere. Are you actually saying that increasing CO2 levels globally will NOT increase average global temperatures? You seemed to be calling that idea bullshit, yet there is so much science and observations supporting it.
So are you calling the entire concept of the so-called "greenhouse effect" of CO2 and methane .... bullshit? That's my big question to you.
Ok, I get it about the alleged depopulationists like Bill Gates and apparently many more, a friend has helped bring me up to speed recently on all of that. I don't know ... it's a lot to take in, not the least of which argues for a global cabal that has all the world's leaders cooperating behind the scenes to bring the world to a standstill even while appearing to be trying to keep the world economies growing.
I did like that you brought up some months ago the point about the vaccines, that they are going to eventually clog up everyone's capillaries with excess spike proteins and cause much illness and death of the vaccinated from oxygen deprivation (basically, I am pretty sure that was your argument). There has been increasing evidence of vaccinated athletes suffering sudden deaths, and I do believe that is where such an effect would first appear. So I am continuing to keep a close eye on that aspect of the vaccines.
With respect to climate change overall, I do believe that the solution proposals that will be coming out over the next decade or so will make the cure seem worse than the disease, for TODAY'S generation. The argument will be that we, that is today's generation, MUST take dramatic and almost masochistic steps to save the future of mankind. I have been describing recently that I don't see that kind of argument going over very well, for the simple reason that people don't want and won't want to take such steps on the POSSIBILITY that they are necessary.
But at the same time, it appears that more and more people are being won over to such arguments. The reason? They are caught up in unprecedented catastrophes -- wildfires, droughts, monsoons and flooding, temperature extremes. Eventually if these catastrophes become endemic and truly global, a sea change in attitudes will likely occur.
Either way, a lot of people have to perish it seems. Whether that's the work of depopulationists or good old, bad old Mother Nature ... a vast reduction of population does seem not just necessary but quite predictable.
So are you calling the entire concept of the so-called "greenhouse effect" of CO2 and methane .... bullshit? That's my big question to you.
No, I do not doubt that this greenhouse effect exists, but it is one of many side effects of global warming and not a cause. As stated in this seminal peer-reviewed paper, I gave to you,
"In other words, the so-called ‘greenhouse back radiation’ is globally a result of the atmospheric thermal effect rather than a cause for it. Our empirical model also has fundamental implications for the role of oceans, water vapor, and planetary albedo in global climate."
The paper deliberately analyzed climate change patterns on rocky planets with zero net carbon emissions, and the patterns and correlations to atmospheric thermal effects are no different than here on earth.
So going to zero-emission here on earth will not change the weather. As stated, the climate change alarmists have been suggesting sea levels will rise appreciably and flood out large areas of the coast, and this is why we should all be concerned. This is a complete falsehood and always has been,
You object to my lurid characterization of "fear porn." Still, since this phenomenon of the greenhouse effect has been hijacked as a rationale to induce an artificial famine in the same way a weaponized virus was used to induce an artificial pandemic, I think strong phrases are warranted.

This is a wonderful film of the first Western Journalist that uncovered Stalin's forced famine on his people between 1930-1933. Both Stalin and Trudeau chewed up the lives of human beings in name of a transformative vision of Utopia. Both destroyed their countries and societies, as well as vast numbers of people inside and outside their states. Both committed genocide and used the MSM to cover it up.
Both genocides were covered up by the MSM. Trudeau's genocide started with murdering thousands of elderly people deemed "useless eaters" by mislabeling deaths as "COVID" that were actually medical malfeasance via denying vital supplements and nutraceuticals and murdering this population with Midazolam.
Ontario now sends out do-it-yourself euthanasia kits replete with the drug of choice to off your grandparents in the comfort of your home with midazolam, the Zyklon b of the 21st century used to murder millions of elderly ("Useless eaters" ) around the world. Check it out you can, too can, get your own euthanasia kir. https://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/pro/...e_20220401.pdf.
Next is to starve millions of us to death as did Stalin 1930-1933. Remember NO FARMERS= NO FOOD. History repeats itself.
Sinema Agrees to Climate and Tax Deal, Clearing the Way for Votes
The Arizona Democrat had been her party’s last remaining holdout on the package, now slated to move forward on Saturday and pass the Senate within days.
A Times investigation revealed a coordinated effort by state treasurers to use government muscle and public funds to punish companies trying to reduce greenhouse gases.
"The amount of solar energy that Earth receives has followed the Sun’s natural 11-year cycle of small ups and downs with no net increase since the 1950s," says NASA's Global Climate Change website. But "over the same period, global temperature has risen markedly. It is therefore extremely unlikely that the Sun has caused the observed global temperature warming trend over the past half-century."
Perhaps the greenhouse effect is both a side-effect AND a cause of global warming. In that case, we have a feedback loop and there would have to be some other, dampening effect to prevent the loop from causing exponential temperature increases. Whatever that dampening effect may have been during the first 150 years or so of the industrial revolution, it seems we have overcome (by the sheer volume of our CO2 and methane emissions) the dampening effect and enabled a Venus-like projection of our future to become reality.
Perhaps the greenhouse effect is both a side-effect AND a cause of global warming.
That hypothesis does not work with the analysis of the paper I posted, demonstrating rocky planets without greenhouse
gasses have the same weather patterns based on the atmospheric thermal effect as the earth does.
"With the Southwest gripped by its worst drought in 1,200 years, there’s less precipitation of any kind these days across the region, especially the crucial frozen variety with its multi-month staying power. Rain, as desperately as it’s needed, isn’t quite the same: Unless it goes into a lake or reservoir, it won’t be available for weeks or months in the future, the way snowmelt can be. What little winter precipitation does arrive now often lands as rain and runs off, long gone by summer. The West’s mountain snowpacks have shrunk, on average, 23% between 1955 and 2022. By the end of the 21st century, California could lose as much as 79% of its peak snowpack by water volume."

Human history is replete with examples of ideologies and scientific theories which were supported by the 'best' minds of the times, but later proven to be nonsensical. While the most commonly mentioned in this respect is the ideology of theology, it also holds true in the fields of science: in medicine, we have a saying that half of what we believe to be true today will be proven false in the future...we just do not know which half...and we all know that the great scientist Galileo was duly tried by the powers that were, and duly declared to deserve prison-time for stating that the earth moves around the sun and not vice-versa...
So how do we deal with this? The libertarian answer is for the governments to educate the masses on what various facts are, and what the probable outcome from those facts is believed to be possible, but not force anyone to do or not do anything, other than realizing that if their activity creates demonstrable harm to others, they would definitely have to commensurably compensate those others, which would prevent people from releasing demonstrable toxins into the atmosphere or the lakes...
