I also like your latest signature, and in fact it will happen, except the CFC will become a farm system to feed not a new chess federation, but a federation that offers a new way to play chess. Any adults that still want to play standard chess will still have the CFC. Isn't there still a federation for correspondence chess? The CFC's future is to be far more niche than it is now in adult chess, and to be a glorified day care center.
The signatures are temporary. Something else will likely catch my attention.

Yes, Canadian correspondence chess has a federation but in recent years it has become much smaller than in the past. They hold a national women's championship with entrants from nations other than Canada and the U.S.

International correspondence chess is still alive and well. Mostly it's played on their server. Also, any Canadian event may be held on the ICCF server as they allow the federations use. I think they have a small charge per game. So it costs more to register a 15 player event on the server than it would be an 11 player event. Mostly it's the unpaid tournament directors who enter the events and the ratings are done automatically when a game finishes.

For me, it doesn't make sense to get on the CFC rating ladder when I can play strong adults in GM norm events in international correspondence chess, if I wanted. While my rating is a few points shy of the bottom end of the qualifications, when they fill out an e section if a lower rated player does not lower the category of the event they will allow the lower rated player to enter. Also, for some reason which completely escapes me, there are a lot of players who want a crack at defeating me. Must be my pleasant personality.

Fide does not seem to want to be left behind by technology. I notice they are moving to online ratings. I haven't tried this feature but it appears a player can have 1 years access to online for 25 Euros a year. I don't know what that includes.

With all the advances being made in FIDE chess I can't understand the problem with our national championship. It seemed to be easier to organize in the 1950's and 1960's to have a decent championship.

That's good. Perhaps, despite the sharp differences that are sometimes expressed here, the culture of ChessTalk has developed to the point that it is mostly self-moderating. In which case, the less said the better and I must apologize, in advance, for commenting at all.

I hope this doesn't sound like sour grapes, but the role of the Moderator is exaggerated anyway. You have no authority to delete an obvious spam account; the blog feature is completely out of your hands; despite the volunteer nature of the task, moderators aren't encouraged to participate in debate (especially if they have "unpopular" views); there has been little improvement or additional features (such as display of pgn games as the CFC Discussion Board has); and so on.

However, it's my firm opinion that the existing improvements, primarily the requirement of identifying yourself, have made things much better than they were. And maybe that's all we can expect, given the constraints.

If anyone takes on the task, then good luck to them.

          It's like herding cats,
          a thankless task,
and there are other activities that chess volunteers can,
          or should,
          be doing.

I think membership has an automated quality, or did for a time, and there are all sorts of undeleted spam accounts. The most annoying, IMHO, are the (semi-pornographic? not sure) postings as "Visitor Messages" (see your own account for an example from vietnam03) from the spam accounts which I could only, as moderator, delete one at a time.

You have a visitor message from "vietnam03" on your profile. It's spam. Have you tried deleting it?

Was unaware I had such a message! So, visitors leaving messages there waste their time, although I suppose a BOT did it.

Well, technically that is a list of users who have 'admin' privileges (including me at the moment). I am not performing any moderation activities.
