I enjoy having the Friday evening free. 3 games in one day is no trial for me, unless I'm sick. That said I do understand those who find three games tiring. But why not have 3, 2 and those who don't want to have 3 in one day can take a bye. As Ferdinand said bye's aren't the worst things ever, and can even work to your advantage sometimes.

Sometimes it is a cost factor. Why would organizers pay for an extra day unless they want to? Or maybe the Friday night is not available at the site location.

Niagara Falls used to do 3 Rds Saturday with Rd 1 90 mins S/D then all rounds after 30/90 S/D 1 but we ran into long nights for round 3.
So we did Saturday 90 mins S/D for Rd1-3 and 30/90 S/D 1 for Sunday's Rd4,5.

We are now doing Rd 1 Friday night at 90 mins s/d and Sat and Sunday 2 Rounds each day 30/90 S/D in 1 . This became our best solution however it does cost us an extra Day's rent.

If chess players enjoy playing then they will play all games, if they are coming for fun they will take byes. If they are coming for prizes they will use whatever system will give them the best score.

As long as you are enjoying your chess time, use what fits your life style.

Whatever scheduling option is chosen, players can always choose to take a bye to lessen the number of hours on Saturday or free up Friday night (or take two byes and achieve both).

Last weekend at Hamilton IM Kaiqi Yang won the Open section with 1 point clear of the 2nd place ( 4 wins and a draw ) . He will be playing at Mississauga Open. Let's see who can deny him back to back victory ?

This Sunday will be Brantford Active organized by Rob G and Lee Hendon.

What are the Prizes for the seniors section are they First Only? I would play in Seniors if I have a fair chance at a prize but as the senior's list stands I have no fair chance to win a prize.
I'd prefer U1600 as anyone can win which is a far better fair chance to win a prize.

Players from Senior section opted for U-2000 section leaving no players in the Senior section right now. We may have to scrap this section leaving only 4 sections to play.

We are still hoping to fill up another 10-30 players to make this tournament a success. Hope that after today, we will be up to 80 players. Thanks to the players who have pre-registered so far.

Up till now, we still don't see any titled players ( FM/NM ) from Toronto. We would love to have you play in this tournament since there is no Labour Day tournament the following week.

I have updated the list with the ratings for the 2 upper sections. Will follow up with the other 2 sections later.

Gary has been after me to announce the prize distribution for the $2,000 prize fund.
Well, I don't know yet. Can we just say, based on entries yada yada yada!

My thinking is this:

Cash prizes for 4 sections: Open, Senior, U2000, U1600.
Trophies: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4 sections: Seniors, U2000, U1600, U1200.
So - no trophies for Open, no cash for U1200.

Cash distribution will be "weighted somewhat" towards the top sections in the exact proportions that 100% of all participants will exclaim, "this is totally fair and equitable!". Well, that's the plan anyways. :)

We have surpassed our record of 110 players in our maiden tournament in 2013. Hope all the players who have registered turns out on Saturday for us to break the record. That will be fantastic.
